This is an interesting article about the nurse practitioner residency programs that they discussed today.

Here is a recent commentary written by two nursing professors from the University of Pennsylvania SON about nurse residency programs. Until reading this article, I was not aware that the IOM recommends residency programs for nurses who complete an advanced practice degree program. Currently, data illustrates that these programs improve practitioner confidence and strengthen NP role identity; however, there is a lack of data showing the impact of these programs on patient outcomes. These professors believe that residences should not be mandated but rather encouraged.

An interesting article about an APRN fellowship. It is a yearlong program that has classroom sessions, simulations, and peer-to-peer support networks. The program is aimed at facilitating the APRN transition and reducing burnout. It seems to have some good results!

From this article, it acknowledges the importance of inter-professional collaboration. At the end of the residency program, NPs held a stronger appreciation for the roles of other health care professionals as well as the benefit from getting feedback from different specialties. Interesting (and very truthful) article on the transition into FNP and the multiple factors/challenges that come along with it..i.e. support system, surrounding environment, how an individual copes, etc. It discusses how exciting the graduate school experience can be, yet how simultaneously it can be very intimidating to enter into the "real world" of being an APRN.
