Great document that highlights the scope of practice of CNMs and the patient population.

I thought this was a very nice summary of the history of Midwives in Colonial America. Oh my, how things have changed!

Dawley clearly outlines the critical role birth centers and home birth during the 1930's and 1940's played in the developed of our current professional midwifery culture.

In reproductive endocrinology, there is no clear role for a CNM. I feel like this article has an undertone that doesn't seem to invite the CNM to the table for collaboration, though I still found it interesting.

This is an interesting article with many varied references, discussing the history of midwifery throughout the world and since the dawn of human civilization. The authors state their interest in identifying the "macro" and "micro" socio-cultural factors that have shaped the development of the midwifery profession, focusing on the concept of "care" and on midwifery as the world's first holistic profession.
