This article explains that California law requires a CNM to have a physician telephonically available to consult should him/her need advisement, but that this advisement is left at the discretion of the CNM. It argues that the term "supervision" is not representative of the actual state statutes and regulations and that it is misleading to insurance companies, hospitals, and vendors. This then can lead to a decrease health care access.
