To DNG or Not to DNG? - Lightroom Killer Tips - 1 views

  •
This is an article against DNG, I liked it because it clearly goes through what the pros are of DNG but then goes on to say why they still don't like it. They feel that it is weird to throw away the raw files, and while they understand why and are not purely against DNG, they still prefer not to use it.

I feel like DNG is a good thing to do because your files are smaller. Also you do not lose any quality even though it is smaller.
  •
I agree that .DNG is a good thing. Its essentially a universal RAW file, but its 20% smaller which is pretty neat. Also you can view this file on any computer at anytime and it will have all of its meta data.
  •
Converting it to a DNG will make your file universal and smaller in size. It is worth converting to make your work flow a lot easier.
  •
To DNG is the answer. It slightly shrinks the raw file with ought loosing too much data so it is smarter to. Also, converts it from proprietary to a universal which i incredibly useful. DNGs also can be opened with any program which makes them an overall great file format.

Should You Convert Your Photos to DNG? - 1 views

  • formats might be difficult to read in the
  • distant future since the format hasn’t been openly documented and support
  • Since the DNG format (.dng) is open source anyone can write software to read or write the format.

  • from the manufacturer may not always be there.
  • There are also no license restrictions so camera manufacturers could use DNG as their default RAW format instead of their proprietary format.
  • DNG files are around 15-20% smaller in file size than proprietary RAW files without any loss of quality!
  • The DNG format includes a checksum that can detect file corruption
  • might not be necessary.
  • you can’t accidentally make adjustments that change the original file (the way you can with JPEGs).

this is a really good article on the pros of converting to DNG after reading a couple of other websites about the pros and cons of converting to DNG i decided that i was pro and i think that this artical sums up the pros in a pretty simple and easy to understand way.

Dammit i chose the same article!

I think that this article agrees with the process of converting your photos to DNGs. I highlighted main points made by the author, but basically he listed many reasons why we should convert our photos to DNGs. One of the reasons I think would be the main reason I would convert my photos would be because I could would be able to open my photos in a lot of different softwares, not just Adobe softwares. It would be brilliant if camera manufacturers could use DNG instead of the RAW format. #proDNG

The benefits of DNG makes me personally want to change my work flow. DNG is universal, smaller in size, and is adjustable like an ordinary raw file. Unlike Canon, Sony, and Nikons proprietary RAW formats. DNG is universal and I've seen it used for video and photo. Id make the switch.

DNG vs RAW - 1 views

  •
This article does more than give one opinion, this article describes all the positives and negatives of using dng files or using raw files. This article gave more than enough information about dng and raw file formats. But in the end this article made a case for the use of dng files instead of raw files for so many different reasons that i agree with; ideas like dng files are more compatible simpler to deal with and the size of the files are smaller.
  •
This article has both sides of the argument. DNg I still think is better because you can open the dng file in any format.
