Egyptian bloggers continue to be targeted by the police and authorities. In less than a week, two more bloggers have been arrested.

According to Gamal Eid, Executive Director of the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information, the recent arrests of bloggers is an attempt by Mubarak's regime "To silence the voices that criticize the [Egyptian] government's performance and send a message by assaulting and kidnapping, to say that criticism will not be tolerated."

A student blogger critical of Egypt's policy towards the Gaza Strip is believed to have been held incommunicado in the custody of State Security Investigations (SSI) services and at risk of torture since his arrest on 6 February.

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information said today that the Egyptian security forces have released kidnapped activist Philip Rizk. Rizk was held blind-fold for five days in an unknown place and subjected to all kinds of mental abuse.
