Teaching as transparent learning « Connectivism - 0 views

  • My argument is this: when we make our learning transparent, we become teachers. Even if we are new to a field and don’t have the confidence to dialogue with experts, we can still provide important learning opportunities to others.
  • Prominent and transparent learners I can’t speak for them, but from reading prominent educational technology bloggers - Will Richardson, Terry Anderson, Stephen Downes, Grainne Conole - I’m left with the impression that they too seek not to proclaim what they know, but rather to engage and share with others as they explore and come to understand technology and related trends. Watching others learn is an act of learning.

'We're Going to the Moon:' Part 2 | innovation3 - 0 views

  •
This morning President Obama gave what I would call his 'We're-Going-to-the-Moon' speech at the 146th Annual Meeting of National Academy of the Sciences. Earlier today I wrote a post, Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity for Our Children, on a comment by Secretary of Education Arnie Duncan about the need to challenge the educational status quo. After listening to President Obama's speech, I realized it was a Part 2 to my earlier post so I retitled the post 'We're-Going-to-the-Moon:' Part 1 and titled this post Part 2. Please listen to the entire speech and read the full text, but here I quote the President's comments on STEM education.

Is this really grade 4 and 5 stuff?? I thought it was a bit of a stretch, at first, especially given that most kids don't learn about these human statistics until middle or high school. However, the more I studied them, the more I realized that a huge range of numeracy skills are embedded in each of these statistics.

I've separated my "The Best…" lists here by topics. A number of the lists, though, can fit into multiple categories, so it still might be useful to scan all of them.
