Website that sends you children's books in return for reviews from librarians and teachres.

Website which will send you free books and asks the school and library professionals to rate the children's books. This is a great opportunity for those who are strapped for cash.

Librariies and non profits having book sales can use this site to list their sale for free. It is in beta testing now, but looks like it might have some cool features if you manage book sales. If you try this and review it, let me know, I'd love to know what you think.

This New York Times article on the Open Content Alliance is an essential article for librarians and media specialists to read. It is also important for those following the fight for information and control of that information. In this case, the Open Content Alliance wants to make books that they scan available to any search engine while Microsoft and google are aggressively approaching libraries for exclusive access to their content. (which could be rescanned by another later, possibly.) Librarians and media specialists should understand this... when will people approach schools to scan annuals or student produced works? Maybe that is a while off, but for now, be aware that it is probably inevitable.

"Getting IT Right" is for folks who have no clue about Information Technology and its ability in bettering our day-to-day lives. It introduces novices into the world of IT and helps in knowing what's in store by becoming computer savvy. This book serves as a primer and makes the reader aware of what IT can do and how much can be accomplished by harnessing its power. Learning IT is not that tough as it is being made out. Mind you, without IT skills you are nowhere in today's workplace. This book would help you form an idea what IT is all about and prepare you to pick up the rudiments of IT.

Free, downloadable, eBooks - great source to use to allow students to choose their own reading.

BlogBooker is a free site that turns your blog into a PDF book from all the blog's entries and comments. It works with WordPress, LiveJournal and Blogger blogs. It is very simple. You export your blog (slightly different process for each blog service - BlogBooker has instructions for you) and then upload it to BlogBooker. It then assembles everything into a high-quality PDF file. This can take a few minutes or longer depending on the size of your blog. This is a great way to print your BlogBook or make an archive/backup of the blog. It could also be useful for students and educators as a way to save a blog as a portfolio item.

I've downloaded this free book with 50 ideas to "meet" your new students. If you don't feel you started well last year or are looking for ideas, this is a book with lots of ideas. Targeted to younger classes but you could get some ideas for older kids.

Website for sharing and publishing your own eBooks using the open ePUB format. Also includes a database of free children's books in the ePUB format. Perhaps a great use for iPod Touches or iPads in the classroom.

Online storybooks

CO14 is happening this weekend and so many great people are presenting. It runs from February 7-9 and is free. My session is sharing how writing has been reinvented as I share the 9 tools that have changed how we teach forever (a sneak preview of my book coming out in May.) If you teach writing, work with curriculum or teach, feel free to join in. The session is at 8 am EST on Saturday morning, February 8. Anyone can join.
