  • “They need skills that are different than ‘Spit, spit, there’s the answer,’ ” said Lisa Baldwin, 48, a high school teacher in Great Barrington, Mass., who said students’ ability to focus and fight through academic challenges was suffering an “exponential decline.” She said she saw the decline most sharply in students whose parents allowed unfettered access to television, phones, iPads and video games.
  • Other teachers said technology was as much a solution as a problem. Dave Mendell, 44, a fourth-grade teacher in Wallingford, Pa., said that educational video games and digital presentations were excellent ways to engage students on their terms. Teachers also said they were using more dynamic and flexible teaching styles.

      I actually went to a school right outside of Moorseville, NC for about a year. The description of the classrooms are accurate. We always used technology in the classroom and smart boards were also extremely important in that location. We used them all of the time to present projects and to write examples and answers on the board when presenting topics.

      Regarding to the questions about if learning online is different than traditional learning. I believe that it is. Ever since technology has been incorporated to the classroom my grades have excelled. I feel that I can learn more through technology because I can do things at my own pace and receive more feedback on my work.

      I agree that every student should have a digital device 24/7. However, I think the usage of technology needs to be limited and strictly used for school purposes. I think computers or tablets should be used in the classroom but cellphones should be prohibited.
