TidalBlog: SL is for "People with some spare time"... - 0 views

  • ... according to an otherwise nice article (pdf) on media for science communication in the latest Society for General Microbiology's Microbiology Today. The author makes use of SL for professional purposes so is very much entitled to her opinion.
  • Of course, the mission of the CDC isn't to produce microbiology sims for use by UK teachers (though the mission of the sim isn't actually explained anywhere so I could be wrong). However, in addition to a conference centre there are some virtual labs where you can get a hazmat suit (no hazard warning signs anywhere though so presumably no need to wear?), sit at a microscope and look at some slides. The slides and adjacent equipment are not explained or apparently part of any theme or quest. There are a few computers, including one linked to the NHS website for no obvious reason (some reuse, perhaps?).Indeed, much of the open air part of the site seems to act as an interface, via signs, to the CDC website (so why not just go there?). A slightly better touch is a circular path that documents the various awareness themes for the calendar year and this appears to link into a bracelet. There are some bots with no obvious function. Compared to the adjacent Healthinfo Island, it is (i) much more polished, (ii) much less engaging.
  • However, it would still seem that neither the SGM nor CDC "get" virtual worlds in any meaningful way yet.

Turning Immigrants to Citizens: Merits of the pedagogical shift in 3D Virtual Learnin... - 0 views

  •
Abstract The extent of reliance of current generations of students on information and communication technology (ICT) for education has been a debatable issue for decades. Despite this controversy, there is a generalization amongst researchers that fundamental shifting of educational methods towards e-learning is deemed inevitable and beneficial to cater for students' skills and preferences, through newly emergent 3D Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) like Second Life. This paper derives and critically analyses, using grounded theory, advantageous themes and their sub-concepts of providing e-learning through 3DVLEs.Furthermore it discusses two identified states of learners in 3DVLEs, namely digital natives and digital immigrants, and how these pave the way for emergence of digital citizens in 3DVLEs.

Buy Chrome Extension Reviews - Buy 5 Star Shop - 0 views

Buy Chrome Extension Reviews - Buy5StarShop Google Chrome is one of the most popular web browsers in the world. Although it is free, it doesn't mean that you are not allowed to add some extensions to your browser. The extension is only a software program that adds extra features and functionality to Google Chrome. For example, by installing an add-on you can use YouTube without leaving your site or see weather conditions for cities around the world. However, some extensions do not work well on their own: they need reviews from people who have used them before in order to improve quality and stability of their products. That's why we have created this blog post: to help you understand why you might need to buy Chrome Extension Reviews from us and how exactly it works!

Chrome Web Store is a place where you can find extensions for Google Chrome. You can also find themes, apps and games in this store. Extensions are small programs that can change how you use Google Chrome. For example, they can add features like translation tools or auto-fill forms to the browser's toolbar buttons (the buttons at the top of your screen).
