Prevent hate and violence in classrooms through the Reimagine Resilience program offered by Teachers College, Columbia University.

Educational Displacement Theory is a concept that highlights the negative impact of social, economic, and cultural factors on the success of students. If educational and mainstream narratives do not allow for understanding and voicing of grievances or perpetuate exclusion, Educational Displacement occurs, disengaging a student from a classroom, school, or community.

This provides an opportunity for radicalization to arise and potential violence. When we fail to provide educational space, dialogue, and content that addresses the grievances of at-risk or marginalized students, alternative social and educational content undermining the mainstream narrative is likely to fill the void.

Reimagine Resilience aims to enable educators to promote and instill values of resilience, non-violent problem-solving, and social connectedness among themselves and their students in schools and communities. Dr. Sabic-El-Rayess’ team possesses extensive teaching experience, research, and in-depth knowledge of education technologies, with a proven track record of building successful online professional training that is interactive and engaging.

Addressing Educational Displacement requires a multi-faceted approach that involves addressing the root causes of the problem. The Reimagine Resilience program includes tools and training for educators to support students of all backgrounds and uplift their stories to counter negative narratives they may hear about or read about online. Schools can work to create an environment where all students feel they belong through social connectedness within the classroom, school, and community.
