In a pair of studies surveying a broad spectrum of U.S. workers, Russell Johnson and colleagues found that people who monitored their smart phones for business purposes after 9 p.m. were more tired and were less engaged the following day on the job.

I do agree with the author of this website. Such phenomenon not only exist in S. Korea, but also it is very common in Hong Kong. In fact, it is true that addicted smartphone user usually suffered from discomfort of their body parts and alienated relationship from family members and friends. As a smartphone user, I should be aware of being addicted in using mobile phones.

      1st Point
  • Redesigning smartphones resulted in a technology that can keep you busy for most of the day. In many cases, this can keep us oblivious to our surroundings. As Torilsmith says “everyday I witness someone trip on a crack in a sidewalk, almost tumble down flights of stairs, run into trees and have to slam on breaks…all as a result of being mesmerized by their smartphones” (Torilsmith, January 2012) Moreover, another negative impact of the improvement of smartphones is that it is changing the social norms of our lives. People are starting to be disrespectful without noticing that being busy on their smartphones is the reason. There are many things that show how redesigning and improving smartphones change our social norms. For example, teenagers now a days are texting all the times and adults are receiving work-related phone calls or emails during holydays. Once again, these are just certain negative impacts of smartphones on the society that we must keep in mind while working on improving that technology.

  • Smartphones Improvements: positive and negative impact on society Posted on September 19, 2013 | 3 Comments In our contemporary world, smartphones are playing a very important role in people`s life.  It’s a technology that keeps on developing everyday to make the life of each person easer, but the real question is what do people feel about the raped development and impact of such a technology on the society? To answer these questions, I decided to analyze the impact of smartphones on our society in this blog especially since it will help me work on developing a smartphone design project that I will be involved in soon. Of course, both positive and negative impact exist and must be analyzed separately.

  • Slouching over your phone for hours at a time is ruining your neck and hurting your back muscles. “iPosture" or "Text Neck" are just two of a few phrases doctors throw around to describe the excessive stress on neck muscles. According to a study of young adults in the U.K., 84% of those tracked experienced back pain during the last year, mainly due to being hunched over smartphones, tablets, and computers.
  • Using your phone too much can cause inflammation in your tendons and enhance existing conditions, like tendinitis and carpal tunnel. Similarly, "Cell Phone Elbow" describes tingling or numbness in ring and pinky fingers after bending your elbow for long periods of time.
