Kraus studies the effect musical training has on the brain and finds that musicians have increased abilities in other hearing-related skills such as language and the ability to block out background noise. This has significance for educators. 1) It argues that music should be part of the curriculum. 2) Children with some learning disorders can benefit.

Prensky's articles last week inspired me to learn more about how the anatomy and functioning of the brain change due to exposure to stimuli. This article is about the effects of musical training on language and other skills one might be surprised to hear about.
