For every correct answer you choose, 10 grains of rice are raised to help end world hunger through the World Food Programme. This website has two goals. One is to help end world hunger and the other is to help educate people. People of all ages can answer questions and for each question that they get right, 10 grains of rice are donated to the UNWFP (United Nations World Food Program). They can answer questions in a variety of subjects such as humanities, math, and science.

I thought this site was really cool. It helps promote curiosity and exploration for children of all ages. The site includes a wonder of the day…Today's wonder is "Is there a planet between Mars and Jupiter?"…and the answer is yes! There is a dwarf planet called Ceres between the two planets. You also have the option to explore other wonders on this site or to post something that you are wondering.

Socrative is a site where teachers can create assessments for their students to take using laptops, tablets or smartphones. Teachers can watch in real-time as their students progress through the assessment.

Math and The Simpsons

"Free brain breaks kids love and teachers request." This is a great website for free and appropriate movement activities for students of all ages!

Interactive math manipulatives that make math concepts come alive. Thinking Blocks teaches students how to model and solve math word problems. There is even a Thinking Blocks, Jr. which caters to 1st and 2nd grade students. Admittedly, Kathy recommended this website to me when I asked her for suggestions that might help my 4th grade daughter who was struggling with fractions. My daughter loves it! Thanks, Kathy!

Educreations is a website on which teachers can create online video lessons and tutorials using their own voice. This tool is utilized a great deal at our school to explain math concepts. It helps students (and parents) when they need help doing homework--they can simply log onto a tutorial that the teacher has created in order to clarify the day's lesson.

This packet contains the principles of problem solving by George Polya, a renowned mathematician. It contains numerous strategies like guess and check, draw a picture, work backwards ... The packet consist of walking you through 12 different strategies with examples and practice problems for students. This is a site I use all of the time where I tutor. It is geared mostly towards elementary and lower middle school students. ZooBurst is a digital storytelling tool that lets anyone easily create his or her own 3D pop-up books. On this site students can create their own digital storybooks. Students can also use this site to write reports and to deliver presentations. They can choose the 3D images from the large collection of library clipart that is provided on Zooburst. They can also add chat bubbles to these images. These books can be shared with others through a hyperlink.
