This site--English pedagogy guru Jim Burke's ning--is a treasure trove for middle school and secondary English instructors. Joining requires verification of your relationship to a learning institution. The site is well organized, allowing me to browse by general topics and within forums. It's a virtual teacher's lounge, allowing for quick takes on strategies for teaching any number of things, or in depth discussion on the viability of Literature Circles for Shakespeare study. I could easily get lost in the forest of great ideas here.

A logophone's dream. While I would love to possess a revered hard copy in my classroom learning center, I would definitely have this site bookmarked.

This link to the Oxford English Dictionary is an invaluable resource for Middle School ELA and Secondary Ed English teachers. I can see it as a frequent "go-to" site for Student Researchers, providing more interesting content than a standard online dictionary. Because the OED is concerned with word origins, I believe it would be helpful in creating bridges with ELL students as well, giving them a chance to see the linguistic contributions their language has made to ours. Check out the link in the lower center column for teachers and students (resources and lesson plans).

Collection of educational videos, lessons, quizzes, games, and puzzles about Science, Math, Social Studies and English

This website has some great video lessons, complete with lesson objectives, notes for the instructor, and links to external resources. It doesn't have anything for English, but it does have a big math and science section.

I liked the Reading Zone Blog because it is comprised of a young English teacher's lesson ideas, book reviews, and other classroom tips. It is well organized and easy to read. I found many of her blogs useful to my own teaching.

I found this blog to be useful because it contained video and reading methods that are related to English or Reading. This blog contains helpful links to other websites and is simply formatted so that it is easy to read.

I just want to introduce some program 

Taylor Mali is a dynamic poet who taught for years in NYC. He runs Poetry Slams, which I how I first became acquainted with his work. Our English teacher uses Taylor's You Tube Videos where he recites his own poetry, to introduce our Poetry Unit each Fall. A bit gruff, but spot on!

When learning vocabulary, or to study for a quiz, one of the most common practices has been to make flashcards. This is done in foreign language classes, English classes, and other classes where learning vocabulary is necessary. Some teachers require their students to make flashcards.

So we recently interviewed (I am a dept. chair) candidate for an opening we have. Beyond the many great things one of those interviewed said, she mentioned a website called Donor Choose which even my co-English chair knew about - but apparently not me!

Great web site for ESL teachers and students. Provides resources for Spanish speaking families.

This is an excellent learning website for Early Childhood students.

Starfall.com opened in September of 2002 as a free public service and has been teaching children to read with phonics ever since. Our systematic approach, in conjunction with phonemic awareness practice, is perfect for preschool, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, special education, homeschool, and English language development (ELD, ELL, ESL).

IXL has hundreds of Math related games, categorized by grade and topic. It is a subscription based site, but allows quite a few free uses, and even once you've used up your free practice for the day it refreshes and let you try again the next day.
