Different than static photos and video, Photosynth allows you to explore details of places, objects, and events unlike any other media. You can't stop video, move around and zoom in to check out the smallest details, but with Photosynth you can. This is backed by McGraw Hill -- I think it is their way of getting free info to create online texts....it's a place where students get paid to upload their notes (i.e. boiled down teacher lectures). A very clever stategy, but there is something about it that doesn't sit well.... I am wondering what ownership rights you give up when you upload notes? This would make an interesting blog post if explored more.

The pace of technological change has challenged historical notions of what counts as knowledge. Dave Cormier describes an alternative to the traditional notion of knowledge as defined by experts who decide what enters the canon and thus what is students should learn. In the place of the expert-centered pedagogical planning and publishing cycle, Cormier suggests a rhizomatic model of learning. In the rhizomatic model, knowledge is negotiated, and the learning experience is a social as well as a personal knowledge creation process with mutable goals and constantly negotiated premises.

I am often asked as I travel to various places to present why I would spend so much time talking about technology knowing that with outsourcing and such that I am undermining job security in that computers could replace teachers. To that I respond, If you can be replaced by a computer then you probably should be! The truth is that technology will never replace teachers, however teachers who know how to use technology effectively to help their students connect and collaborate together online will replace those who do not.

Comic Life allows you to easily create comic books (or documents that look like comic books). Upon opening, Comic Life immediately finds and opens your iPhoto library, giving you a collection of photos to work with. Then you select your template, drag photos into place, drag speech bubbles on top and type text into the speech bubbles. Comics can have as many pages as your storage allows. When finished, comics can be printed, exported as web pages, movies, photos, or uploaded to a .Mac account.
