A person who suffers from neuropathic pain describes it as a searing or shooting sensation. It may go away for a while, but it is usually chronic. It can be very intense and unyielding in certain circumstances, and it can also come and go in others. Phantom limb syndrome is one example of neuropathic pain. This syndrome manifests as a tingling or numbness that gets worse when touched, but goes away when you contact it with cold water or a cloth. Arms, legs, hands, face, buttocks, and groyne are common locations affected. Many various treatments have been tried, but none of them have proven to be successful in all of the patients who have been affected.
