This is a well written blog post which gives an overview of connectivism as a theory and goes into detail explaining theory of practice.

Since my school and district are very PLC (Professional Learning Community) savvy and it was addressed within this module and a form of PLNs I did some searching and came across this PLC site. It has PLC Blogs/Discussions, Evidence of Effectiveness information and Tool / Resources for educators.

This is a blog of an expert in Personal Learning Networks. He talks about how his own PLN has developed and changed over his professional career due to the availabilty to make connections with others in far more ways than were possible 20 years ago. He briefly describes many of the connection possibilities on the internet such as social networks, blogs, wikis, etc.

I like the discussion in this article about critical behaviors. I have found that it is challenging at first to follow through on those behaviors. Assignments in our edtech courses help us engage in such behaviors, but the question for me is whether or not I'll keep those habits intact after the courses end. Thanks for the link.

This blog post (linked to the book, Digital Habitats) discusses creating ones "personal technology configuration," which is a topic we'll be covering later in the semester. The author describes the tools in his "PTC" that he uses to "close triangles" (aka- network individuals to one another; Skype, LinkedIn), share information (blogs, Twitter), and curate information (tagging). Personal identity on the web is an important aspect of developing PLNs and CoPs.

I like how he has coined the phrase "network weaving practices", and also shows how he "weaves" in and out of other networks by using three different PLN configurations: closed triangles, sharing information, and curating resources.

I've never heard of this before with that term. I know it because of the general idea. I think it it great to weave our thoughts and information together with other professional. Teachers love to use materials and ideas from other and this would help make it easier to collaborate with them.

I found the Nielson report cited in several of the articles I reviewed and decided to check it out. The Nielson report typically cites was published in 2009 and so instead I retrieved a more recent (2011) report on the state of social media. This is a fascinating graphic display of the synthesis and major findings of research on the use of social media both in the United States and globally. This is important as we consider the needs and possibilities of using the connected learning theories reviewed in our reading. The data gathered reflects a continued rise in access of social networks and blogs across a wide variety of demographics. Information such as 4 out of 5 active Internet users now visit SN and blogs cannot be ignored as we consider the impact this has on instructional design and education technology applications.

Provides ides for increasing classroom communication as a way of engaging students and parents. Facebook pages, Twitter reminders, blogging, Pinterest show and tell were a few of the suggestions.

Diigo has clear advantages to the individual that needs to store and recall important information. But how can it be used in the classroom? This blog post shares a few options for using Diigo in the classroom. One common problem of student computer use in schools is access to student work from home. Using Diigo, students can bookmark important websites and access them from school, home, the library or any internet-connected computer. Students will always have access to this data. Teachers and students can use the group and list features of Diigo to organize bookmarks on themes or topics. Classes can also collaborate and discuss information within Diigo.

Musical Futures / NUMU collaboration provides peer-to-peer support by blogging and commenting.

Teachers and students connect using websites such as Twitter to collaborate and discuss each month. There are many class projects shared on this blog.

The goal of the ongoing project (started in 2009) is to connect each classroom with 80 other classrooms around the world via Skype. This could be used to foster content from any discipline. Students would blog about the experiences they have with their partner schools.

This interactive site walks kids through the history of the some of the world's most famous conflicts. Role play, higher-order thinking skills, and problem solving engages students. One feature I like is the ability of students to blog a journal of their battle plans/results throughout the activity.

Jin Kim Montclare uses technology and social media to enhance his classes. He tells us about using twitter and blogging to successfully engage students.

Students in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania asked questions over Skype to scientists from CERN the European Organization of Nuclear Research and Fermilab. All felt is was a" high-quality conversation and demonstration medium".

This is a blog that highlights innovative ideas. This page emphasizes digital storytelling projects they had students create to promote how amazing the books were that they read. They present their digital analysis of the book in VoiceThread so that other students can make comments and discuss the themes, characters, plots, or whatever they want to share about the book.

This is a great example of a well maintained page that has the feeling of a sales pitch for potential new students.
