Learning Networks and the Personal Learning Environment - 1 views

  •
Stephen Downes shares, among other ideas, the notion that the self is expressed as a network of connections (when we use the web) and that this self should be at the center of the learning experience. Slides 12 and 13 compare the traditional view of learning with the "community of networks" view of learning, with the self at the center.

Experience of developing Twitter-based communities of practice in higher education - 1 views

This article is beneficial for understanding the background of CoP's; in fact, the reader is educated about much of the terminology associated with it. Overall, the research in this study focuses on using Twitter as a personal network, but I think the value I pulled from it was that it expanded my knowledge base of researchers spanning from 1991-2010 who have defined and analyzed data associated with this subject.

Slide Share: Strategic Communities of Practice - 1 views

  •
While searching for CoP's for Macintosh Computers and Adobe Software for educators, I came across this site and felt that this CoP presented by Slide Share would be a good resource for CoPs through the use of slides, since I see this tool being used in Moodle.
  •
I really enjoyed this slideshow. It definitely takes away from the monotony of reading PDF articles. The slides provide enough information for users to understand CoP.

Super Teacher Tools: Jeopardy - 0 views

The link in the textbook is out of date, so thought I'd share the correct one. I've been using this template for a couple years and my students LOVE it. I give each group a small whiteboard and a marker to put their answers on and the built-in scoreboard makes running the game easy.

Classes from around the world can register for the project to work collaboratively online with other classrooms anywhere. I think I may have my students do this, actually. The cultural, geographical, and historic knowledge that could be shared via twitter or blogs in this setting would be very engaging for my students.
