Great, quick introduction to CoPs; defined: "Communities of practice are groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly." The author explains CoPs in terms of 3 key characteristics: the domain, the community, and the practices, and explains the history of development of the concept (growing out of research of the learning apprenticeship model.)
I found this article very helpful! I just recently heard the term "community of practice" for the first time. This article truly helped me to understand that this is not a new thing by any means. A "community of practice" is simply a group of people coming together to achieve a common goal. As Dave mentioned, I also liked how the author explained these communities in the three components of domain, community, and practice. Nice find!
