The Reality of ICT in the Classroom - 1 views

This article seems to counter a lot of what we hoped: It indicates that giving computers to students may lead to lower academic performance. Hmmm. We may need to look at the methodology behind this study.
  •
I agree with you Sonya. I also think that the article does not state how students are expected to use the computers. Are teachers being trained? I think more variables are needed to support the claim that technology is not "making a dent" in education. It's like giving a kid a baseball bat and expect him to hit a homerun. The kid needs coaching, preferably from someone who knows what they are talking about!

A Glossary to DEMYSTIFY the jargon of the online world - 1 views

  •
Good glossary for online and social media learner newbies. Clear explanations, further links and resources. Terms covered: Avatar Blog Cloud Computing Personal Learning Network (PLN) RSS Social Bookmarking  Social Networking Tag Web 2.0 Wiki
  •
Just the perfect site to help me with the glossary we want to include in our Moodle training for teachers manual! It's funny the way these terms float around out there, but most people have only the haziest idea what they actually mean! I know for a fact that our teacher-learners will benefit from a concise definition of such things as "wiki", "blog", "RSS" and others. And framing these terms within the educational context makes the definitions even more meaningful.

  •
If any of you have had the training on foldables, you will love this site about online flip books. Flip books are easy to make foldable books that flip or turn horizontally or vertically. It allows you to create online flip books in four simple steps'; name your pages, pick a printer, add text and print. In the add text section you have a few options for templates and styles and the book can be printed in either color or black and white. These books can be used for vocabulary in any subject, plots, character studies, writing, student bios you name it. Kids can definitely use this website easily as well as the teacher.
