Here are the main classes I have identified based on our comments so far. We are allowed to have 10 at the most. We have three more headings still available to use if these is something you think is missing. We need to have our "main classes" ready by Thursday night.

The categories (State Standards, District Curriculum) that are listed under the classes (1. Objectives) are for our individual use only. For instance, I can tag with "State Standards," but I'm not required to use "District Curriculum" if I don't need to. Also, I can add another category all-together under Objective once I start tagging.

If there are any additions/changes you want to make leave a comment. Also, if you agree with what we have here, leave a comment so I know we are all in agreement.

I think these look good. The networking one is a good one to tie in a lot of "extra" things. It's a good title to encompass all those aspects.

I kind of agree with you Ben. I'm not sure we need an "Anticipatory" category. I just left it in because it was in the original list I was using that Cathy compiled. I also think it could be a sub-category under subjects under Lesson Plans.

As for Historical, I have that as just a category holder (it's one of mine for historical archives). You wouldn't be required to use it as a tag.

Right now we're only concerned with nailing down the "main classes" as they're called in the Internet Miner course case. If I delete "Anticipatory" we will have 6 classes.

I also considered adding a class called "Assessment," but wasn't sure if I would also include that in the Lesson Plans area as a category. Does anyone think we need an "Assessment" class?

I am not sure what you include as types of websites that are used for assessments. Are these websites that have printable assessments that you can use with students or is it interactive sites that allow students to take assessments online?
  • Ben P

It could be Assessments as the main category. Then you would subcategorize according to online quiz/test vs printable. So there would be two types of sites.

I was thinking about online quizzes and links to ideas for informal assessments: portfolios, self-assessments, journaling, role-playing/dramatization activities; not necessarily the actual tests, but links to ideas for assessing student's knowledge and even a tag for the PDE web site's section on PSSA writing examples (I already have them bookmarked on another computer.) I'm going to add "Assessments" to our main list of classes. Ben seems keen to the idea based on the above post. If Assessments ends up with very little in the way of tagged files, then we'll chalk it up to a "learning experience." Fair?

Also, what are we doing about "Anticipatory" as its own class? I think it should be a category under "Lesson Plans," but I can live with it standing alone. Any thoughts?

Here are our main classes that need to be posted by this evening for our group:

    1. Objectives
    2. Anticipatory* (Let me know thoughts on keeping this one)
    3. Lesson Plan Sites
    4. Wrap up Activities
    5. Student Online Activities
    6. Site Elements
    7. Networking
    8. Timesavers
    9. Assessments* (Let me know thoughts on keeping this one)

For me, I would keep Assessments and do away with Anticipatory. I would do this because the assessments could include work to be printed off whereas I think that most anticipatory sets would be included under one of the other items we have listed.

Excellent. I'm going to go look back at the Internet Miner Information and see where I need to post our main classes. Then we can get started tagging sites as categories under those.
    Here is the final list:
    1. Objectives
    2. Lesson Plans Sites
    3. Wrap Up Activities
    4. Student Online Activities
    5. Site Elements
    6. Networking
    7. Timesavers
    8. Assessments

Thanks for all your work on compiling our list for classification! I'm feeling better and trying to catch up on what's been going on and what I need to do now!
