Humm - this could be a meaningful, real-life project for assignment 3. Involving students in the marketing campaign to return these insects back onto Lord Howe Island. Researching the insects, producing videos, posters, podcasts, - lots of options here...
This film and study guide represents a substantial effort to tackle youth homelessness in Australia. With an estimated 22,000 homeless youth every night, the urgency of the problem is undeniable. The study guide helps students understand the issue of youth homelessness and offers instructions on how to "add your voice" by making a documentary about homelessness in your area -a very worthy application of ICT skills. "Make a change and take action" is the exhortation of the film maker. Links to Civics and Citizenship ideals here.

Anti-poverty week is from 12-18 October. On this page you can find a number of resources about poverty and related issues in Australia and globally. They include a selection of: recent media, recent fact sheets, recent reports and papers, recent local area data and various helpful websites. The link to the University of Adelaide's interactive maps showing public health data I found pretty interesting.
