I think some of my best ideas were ones that were scaffolded off of another teacher's website. This link is to a high school video production in none other than Hollywood, CA. It is set up in the style of a blog, so you can take note of daily activities in their classroom as they happen. This may or may not spark an idea in your own classroom.
HTV magazine is a great resource for students interested in possibly pursuing the video production field. HTV Magazine is made up of 20 junior and senior students that are selected by broadcast advisers each year. These students write the articles as well as create the videos that make up the HTV website.
Grade Level: 6-12
This website allows students to create their own music. This is great when dealing with the whole issue of copyright infringement. For students who are more interested with the audio side of video production this could be a bonus opportunity.
Con: Their isn't anytime in the video production curriculum to go over new software. This would have to be something students learn on their own. Luckily the website is very user friendly.
This a great resource for schools or classrooms that don't contain video editing software. As far as online video editing goes this is as good of an option as you are going to find. Students and teachers can sign up for an account and be up and editing in no time. The site contains many tutorials for how to use the online software.
Students spend a good deal of time looking for the right audio sound effect to accompany their videos. The right sound effect can greatly enhance any film. This website contains a number of free sound effects the student can download and insert into their videos.
Grade level- 9-12
CC- Students can use the site to create a visual slideshow as part of a learning assessment for a unit like the Crusades.
Overview- Students can take their own video and pictures and make stunning slideshows. Also they can incoroporate music too.
Cons- Might need some time getting used too.
This website is great for the person that would like to make a dynamic video slideshow. Animoto takes your photos and arranges them to the beat, rhythm, etc. of the song of your choice. Great for any student who would like to create a professional looking slideshow in a fraction of the time.
Grade level- 7-12
CC- Students can review voicethreads from the site using a rubric as a form of review and report on their findings.
Overview- A global collaboration tool that allows a user to respond 5 different ways to a presentation that includes pictures, video and images.
Cons- Need parents and district permission

CC- A student that is on home tutoring or absent can get missed worksheets and other important documents from class to stay up to date despite missing class time.
Overview- This site allows a user to save their important videos and other imformation online to be accessed by whomever the creator allows.
Cons- Need district and parents permission
Purpose of the Website: Screencastle is an easy tool to create screencasts using the Internet. The user can record animation on their computer and view it back in a video format. All you have to do is select the area of your computer screen that you would like to record and decide if you would like to record from a microphone as well.
Grade Level: 7-12
Classroom Connection: Some way that this tool can be used include:
- Offering an orientation to a new class
- Presenting lessons to the class
- Provide feedback for student work
- Allow students to share work
Negatives of this Website: Java is not working properly on all classroom computers in the district so there is some difficulty with this website since it is Java based.
6-12
Teachers and students are able to use an online chat room for various reasons, in and outside of school.
Cons: District approval, monitor student activity.
K-12
Online poster creator. User can make personal themed posters, using various fonts, images, videos and links.
Classroom Connections:
*Teachers- create a poster of vocabulary words in science social studies, literacy or math-- include images, fonts, words, videos to reinfoce concepts
* Students- create posters to demonstrate what they learned about concepts in any content area- by including text, images, font
* Students- Create posters of research done on various topics- or books reports
3-12
Teachers and students can create an online poster to represent themselves or a project. Teachers can create poster for their class to keep students informed.
Con: there are limits for the Free version.
Grade level- 7-12
CC- Students can create a glogster for a Roman Emperor as to why they would be the best candidate to be Mr. Rome
Overview- A great site to post ideas, important information, and great organizational tool designed with images and color.
Cons- Need some time to get used too.
This is a tool to be used by students or by teachers to create an online poster. One con to this site is that students will first have to be familiarized with copyright law before reusing information. If the poster is intended to communicate research information, there is no built-in way of creating a bibliography.

Soundation is a powerful online music studio with recordings, effects, virtual instruments and over 400 free loops and sounds. This is another great option for those student more interested in the audio side of video production.
Geared more towards high school students, but could possibly be used in lower grades with a small amount of training.
K-12
This is an online interactive tool for students. This is great for students to be able to observe labs that might be too sophisticated or hazardous to complete in class. It's also great for students to practice newly-acquired Math skills. One con is that teachers sometimes "play dead" because of how well the program grabs student's attention. Too much of this would not be a good thing, because they would be lacking that human contact.
Grade K-3
Provides educational movies, homework help, leveled quizzes, games and activities for kids.
This site offes great visual aides and activiites to go along with many different topics across all subject areas.
Teachers can use this site to introduce concepts to students as well as reinforce ans assess students understanding of concepts.
Purpose of the Website: Glogster is a tool that allows the user to create an interactive poster on various topics. It allows student to express their creativity with many tools that are available to them.
Grade Level: 4-12
Classroom Connection: Glogster would be a great introduction activity at the beginning of the school year. Students could create an interactive poster about themselves, as an introduction to their new classmates.
This is a great resource that covers all assets of video production. I find that a number of my students come across this resource on their own every year when studying for quizzes or needing a quick refresher on any given topic. Contains many great photos and examples as well. Quizzes are available for teachers who would like to take advantage of that option.
Grade Level: 6-12
This is quite possibly my favorite go to website in my collection. I have been using this resource since my first day of teaching. Not only does this website offer a number of great assignments and resources, but the teacher is also quick to respond to any questions you might send his way. My first year teaching I came across this website and was in pretty regular contact with this teacher for the first couple months. I learned a solid foundation from his resources.
This website contains hundreds of music clips that students can use in their videos without worrying about copyright infringement. Clips are updated on a regular basis.
