Purpose of the Website: This search engine allows students to search by subject, not only for a picture they are interested in, but also for images that might be relevant to that subject. For example, if you search for cows, you will see images related to farms, cattle, grass, etc.

Classroom Connection: Since April is National Poetry month, poetry would be a great way to incorporate this website into your classroom. Students can choose a subject that interests them. When they search for that topic, students can choose one of the pictures that comes up in the search results and create a poem that is based around that picture. This will help students to take their subject and think outside the box.

One con to this site is that students will first have to be familiarized with copyright law before reusing information. If the poster is intended to communicate research information, there is no built-in way of creating a bibliography.

Purpose of the Website: Glogster is a tool that allows the user to create an interactive poster on various topics. It allows student to express their creativity with many tools that are available to them.
Grade Level: 4-12
Classroom Connection: Glogster would be a great introduction activity at the beginning of the school year. Students could create an interactive poster about themselves, as an introduction to their new classmates.
This is a good resource for the teacher who would like their class to create a video slide show of various images. This might be a better option than using Windows Movie maker for some teachers. Students can access their video at home whether they have a PC or a Mac.
This site can be used as an alternative to web quests and scavenger hunts. Teachers are able to create instructional books for students which lead to task prompts. This is beneficial because it helps to scaffold student-learning. It also has the potential to translate instruction to languages other than English. You can also add images and audio files.
