Classroom Connection: It is a subscription to various topics within special education. Provides support and guidance on varying topics within special education. An example is checklists of symptons of various disorders. Any sort of help can be found within the site.
Cons: It is a paid subscription
A great overall resource for all education. you will have to do some searching and playing around for what works for specific grade levels. CNN rated this "site of the week"
I use this site a lot because our school subsrcibes to it, but it has some great videos and a great abundance of videos separated by content, video segments etc... Some of the videos are a little outdated but the information is great.
Purpose of the Website: This website lists the ISTE standards for educators and students.
Grade Level: K-12
Classroom Connection: Educators should refer to this site when planning technology related lessons, so they can familiarize themselves with the national ISTE standards.
Grades 3-6
A resource of free educational podcasts of science experiments as well as other subject areas for students.
Teaches can use these science podcasts as visual aids to go along with science experiments. The other aspects of the site can be used in a variety of ways but especially as a visualcompnent with concepts that go along with science and social studies contents.
K-12
An web-based collaboration IWB for teachers and students. It can also be used for conferencing for other jobs. Free version- 30 day trial, but teachers can apply for a free educational version.
Con: must pay unless you apply for educational version, which can take time.
K-8
Student reference site with educational resources, activities and games addressing all content areas.
Classroom connections:
* Reference resources- dictionaries, atlases, encyclopedias etc. can be used interactively on SmartBoard- for whole group instruction and practice
* Reference materials and search engine can be used by students for research projects and content area assignments
* interactive/educational activities and games can be used as a center choice
K-12
This is an online interactive tool for students. This is great for students to be able to observe labs that might be too sophisticated or hazardous to complete in class. It's also great for students to practice newly-acquired Math skills. One con is that teachers sometimes "play dead" because of how well the program grabs student's attention. Too much of this would not be a good thing, because they would be lacking that human contact.
Grade K-3
Provides educational movies, homework help, leveled quizzes, games and activities for kids.
This site offes great visual aides and activiites to go along with many different topics across all subject areas.
Teachers can use this site to introduce concepts to students as well as reinforce ans assess students understanding of concepts.
Purpose of the Website: The possibilities that Google provides for teachers is endless! There are so many applications that Google creates for classrooms to be used by students and teachers. Some of the programs include:
- Google Earth
- Doodle 4 Google
- Gmail
- Google Reader
- Google Docs
There are also classroom lesson ideas available for teachers on this website.
Grade Level: K-12, Professionals
Classroom Connection: One example of how Google can be used in the classroom is by using Google Earth. When teaching your students about communities, you can take your class on a virtual field trip of your town. You can pinpoint different community buildings that are important for your community to run and show students where these buildings are.
Negatives of this Website: Some of the Google applications do not run correctly in my district. I have had trouble saving virtual field trips that I have made in Google Earth and there have been times when Google Docs have not opened correctly. So this may be a program that you will have to test ahead of time.
This one covers it all. It has resources for educators, students, and even parents. The benefit of this site is that the information can be printed directly from the screen and you do not need to dowload it. This is particularly beneficial if your district does not give you the authority to download anything off of the web. If you are a parent, I would suggest that you first look at the various resources for parents. You will be hooked. k-12
Grades K-12
Math lesson plans, interactive online activities and web resources.
Teachers can use this site to prepare math lessons based on many different math skills and concepts.Students can utilize this site in the classroom or at home to pratice math skills.
This site is designed for teachers and administrators only. It would not be of use for students. These are web-based professional development opportunities for people looking to grow as educators. I found this site because a friend "like"d it on Facebook. If you agree, do the same and spread the word. k-12
Purpose of the Website: This website has a rubric available for teachers or other professionals to assess various podcasts and determine if they are appropriate for your classroom. There are a variety of questions listed that you can use to determine usefulness. The PDF is also able to be edited on the computer for convenience.
Grade Level: K-12, Professional
Classroom Connection: This rubric can be used by teachers, students, or other professional to identify how useful and appropriate a particular podcast is for use in the classroom.
Negatives of this Website: The only downside to this website is that you are not able to edit the files. Most of the rubrics are perfect but might need a change or two depending on the particular assignment you are working on. It is great that you can fill in the form online, but you cannot edit any of the questions.
Elementary
Classroom connections: This site puts social studies concepts into easy to read format for children. Although I tagged this on the Declaration of Independence, there are various topics throughout the site. It even has current events in the U.S., education, the world.
