It also discusses the challenges that they have faced creating and implementing these games into a learning environment and the challenges that they feel they'll have to face to make it more successful.

Great article. Chris Dede is brilliant - I've been studying with him the last two semesters and have played Alien Contact. In fact, I am currently working on developing an augmented reality tour of the Black Heritage Trail in Boston. This article takes a look at high-tech whiteboards and their potential to become a "powerful tool".

This website had tips on how to deal with cyberbullies. One of the suggestions that I never thought about was contacting their phone or internet provider and file a complaint- they may be in violation of their "terms and conditions". There were also tips for teachers.

Kristy shared this with our 203 group. Students can make a "virtual" poster for a class project and incorporate you tube videos, pictures, sounds, etc. Very creative and unique! I will definitely use this website. I think it would work well with groups or individuals.
  •
How do you attach the stuff? I would like to maybe use this in the future, but not too much. Posters probably get old after a while.

Education Week: Colo. Teachers to Rally Against Tenure Changes - 3 views

  •
The state of Colo. is deciding whether or not to change teacher tenure.

I would hate to see tenure changes made that would punish teachers for poor test performance by students. There are too many factors that play in to how children perform on tests that are completely unrelated to the classroom.
  •
I agree Shandra. Teachers do not get to decide the quality of the students they will teach.
  •
This is going to sound stupid but what is teacher tenure? Is teacher tenure like when a teacher has been teaching at the same school for like 20 years and has a lower chance of getting laid off verses someone that has only been teaching like a year?
  •
Teacher tenure is basically job protection.

I love that this article says that Teacher's aren't just a fountain of knowledge being poured into a child's mind. Peer evaluation can also help a student learn from their's/other's mistakes and achievements.

Middle school students are motivated by experiential learning activities. Got Game: How to Keep Girls Interested in Computer Science December 9, 2010 - 0 views

  •
When the regular school day ends at Maryland's Springbrook High School, the fun begins in earnest for girls who are part of an after-school club that focuses on game programming. They not only excel at technology challenges, says their teacher, Pat Yongpradit, but they are breaking a longstanding -- and worrisome -- trend in the field of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math).
  •
I really thought this article was interesting because it relates to the video, Fair Play: Achieving Gender Equity in the Digital Age. The teacher in the article provides an after school program that focuses on game programming for girls. He started this club as a way to get girls interested in STEM.
