Student Group Work Technique: Big Brain Protocol - 0 views

  •
The video I found that shows effective group work can be found at this link: https://www.teachingchannel.org/videos/big-brain-protocol. According to Cohen (1994) in effective group work "you want to hear an exchange in which people are stimulating each other with ideas" (p. 63). I believe that is present in this video through the structure the teacher has used and the kids' participation. Also the assignment the students are working on has multiple ways to solve it, uses different skills, is challenging, and everyone can contribute something new to the discussion; four points from Cohen's criteria for a multiple ability task (Cohen, 1994, p. 68). I also think this is a good example because all the students in the group are engaging in the discussion and when they use different strategies they talk about it in a constructive way instead of one person dictating which strategy is right.
