The Online Teaching Conference 2012 will be held June 19, 20, & 21 at Long Beach City College, CA. The Online Teaching Conference 2014 will be held June. I would love to register for this and go and be among other like minded folks interested in the power of online learning K-12 and beyond.

The topic of my multimedia workshop is on How to Utilize Multimedia to Create Effective Instructions. I plan to use PowerPoint as my multimedia artifact. In Jones (2005) article she establishes the fact that the technology of choice for most projects was PowerPoint. The main reasons for selecting PowerPoint for my multimedia project coincided with what was discussed in this article. PowerPoint is accessible and familiar to most educators and students. It is simple to use, can be created on desktop, visually stimulating, sounds or auditory stimulation can be added and can be use for cognitive abilities. In addition, PowerPoint has presentation versatility because it can be used as an original file, PDF format, and html format. It can also run with videos and have narration added. Finally, the software allows for interactivity. The focus of the multimedia workshop is to create a learner-centered approach to learning instead of a technology approach to learning; the software is used to facilitate this process (Jones 2005, p. 1). Mayer's (2008) active processing is when meaningful learning occurs and learners are engaged in the active cognitive processing during learning and instructors must figure out ways to prime the learners to pay attention to relevant material, and mentally organize the information and integrate the information based on their prior knowledge. The ability to actively process information can be associated students dynamic, collaborative and synergistic construction of significant knowledge within a multi-learning environment. Jones, D. These guidelines can be used when doing synchronous VOIPS or web conferencing tools like Blackboard Collaborate. Kim is now in Japan teaching, she and I have worked together many times both in and outside of flat classroom projects.

In this video produced by Verizon Wireless, viewers can watch how users can use their cell phone to Skype others. It discusses ways to call, video conference, and instant message using Skype mobile. I think that this multimedia was an example of student-centered learning because it was showing how individuals could use Skype on their phones. This video focuses on the cognitive ability of learners.

This will be a 5-hour hands-on workshop for a professional conference to look at digital e-textile creating to develop collaboration, decision making, and social change learning skills. The delivery will incorporate a multimedia approach to learning based on the 12 design principles developed by Dr. Richard Mayer. Topic Digital e-textile creating connects STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) curricula through an art. Learner engagement/motivation is driven by individual customization of technology through personalization of fashion.

Google + hangouts is a free Google live video chat service that was launched during 2013. This Google application allows up to 10 users to be engaged synchronously through instant messaging and video. The program also allows users to share each other's computer screens while engaged in live video conference. Google + drive allow users to store several gigabytes of information, and since hangouts has numerous features that can be used to suit a wide variety of learning situations, I will use this program as one of the three artifacts for my multimedia workshop on flipped classroom instruction. 

Genesys Conference Center offers the capability of having participants in a workshop interact with the lesson or training session. For example; when training individuals on a software application, the speaker will show the functionality of the application and then turn it over to a participant as they are able to test the application via a shared screen.

This site allows someone to understand what factors are considered for designers, instructors, and learners for being able to communicate with another in an interactive multimedia learning environment. I like how this site segments its information although the graphics are organized as a continuous relationship.

Brief Description: Dim Dim 5 is a software tool that allows individuals to present presentations, give audio, and share whiteboards by the press of a button. Brief Explanation: Although Dim Dim 5 is a software that may cost, Dim Dim 5 let group members present live (with a webcam) and audio conferences, do not have to install any software, and let up to five members participate in a session.

The technique of developing multimedia material for active learning

This is a free site that lets you import images to create a slide show or a quiz along with an mp3 file to embed in your web page, wiki or blog. I tried this at a professional development development conference and found it to be extremely user friendly and a cinch to put together. I like how I can create a quiz with images and text on a screen to ask a question or make a comment.
