Pre-Training - 1 views

This is a great tutorial on basic computer skills for participants who are uncomfortable using the computer. In order to use clickers in the classroom, one must be familiar with the computer. Some individuals that may complete the workshop are still unsure on how to use a computer. The video provides visuals and screen shots for the viewer to see how easy tasks are on the computer. Mayer (2010) explains essential learning as of understanding due to not having a sound previous understanding of a concept. The website helps the user create a graphic organizer. There are step by step instructions to guide the user through. By completing the tutorial, the participant is being pre-taught and gaining the basic knowledge to help then continue through.

This site provides a PowerPoint presentation on how create the most appropriate question format for clickers. The website explains when in the lesson each type of question is most appropriate. The website provides various links that give the learner more information on each topic that pertains to incorporating student response devises in the classroom. The clickers allow for various types of question format. The instructor can choose to use true/false, multiple choice, numerical, and other various types of assessment check point tools to assess the understanding of the content. Furthermore, the website includes suggestions on using the clickers to prompt student conversation and engagement. The learner can develop a greater understanding from the instructions and information provided on this website. The PowerPoint presentation fits into Mayer's essential learning. Essential learning relates to a lack of understanding due to no previous knowledge on the given content. Several participants in the workshop may not understand which types of questions are appropriate for clickers; this PowerPoint will clarify and help pre-teach the material; thus, meeting Mayer's essential learning.

Online Pumpkin Carving at Spookathon.com - 0 views

Pre-Training Introduction\n\nThis is a pumpkin carving site. It allows students to use basic skills to carve pumpkins and post them to the gallery for viewing. This will allow me to see which students are able to navigate the mouse, click and drag, save and post without them realizing they are actually completing a pre-training task. I checked out several pumpkin carving sites before I chose this one. I like it better because it allows students to choose multiple tools to use and also provides them with a broader scale of navigational skills to explore and learn. This will help us in our plotting of our activities in Google Earth/Sky later in the workshop. Cynthia

Tools for Teachers - 0 views

This site will allow me to create quizzes for assessment. Because there are a variety of tools on the site, I can choose from multiple choice, true false, etc. This will allows me to use a variety of assessment tools. Theses quizzes can also be shared with participants to use in their classrooms. I would create quizzes both in regards to APA and in regards to the topic if each workshop.

This Web 2.0 tool is a pseudo-moving making tool using JPEG slides to make videos. This tool will come in handy in two respects. The first to make promo videos advertising the presentation. This will give possible attendees the chance to see what the presentations will entail. This would also be a good reminder since the workshop is split into five different presentations. The second way that this tool can be used is basic how to videos. Because the graphics move a little fast on this tool, the how to videos will have to be very brief and taks specific. Jing or Vimeo might be better options for how to videos.

APA Style - 0 views

This is the tutorial for APA 6th edition. The user can choose the basic or the "I know some" option. This would allow me to have participants to do the basic (I am new to APA) tutorial and get a basic understanding prior to the workshop. There are interactive quizzes to assist with this as well. This would also be a good site to use with student participants to gauge their understanding of APA. This would allow for retraining or accelerated training based on student knowledge.

Print an image poster size! - 0 views

Blockposters is a free online tool that will accept .jpg or .gif images up to 1 MB in size, allow for poster sizing, and return a .pdf file containing the image rendered across multiple pages. Simply print the file and assemble the pages for an instant poster-sized rendition of an image, graphic organizer, instruction page, or just about anything else. This is a tool I have been looking to find for some time! While I have tried replicating the functionality of this online tool using various desktop tools, the ease of use of Blockposters is amazing and the fact that a .pdf file is returned for easy downloading and printing is a welcome surprise. This tool could easily be used for pre-training by enlarging for print most graphic organizers, mind maps, and other types of assistive instructional material that facilitates essential cognitive processing tasks. By printing a graphic organizer in large format and posting in front of a class, students can easily refer to the diagram as needed while using their computers directly in front of them. Posting a large scale printout also eliminates students having to shuffle through miscellaneous printouts on their desktops while operating their computers. Handouts of the graphic organizer could be provided, but the timing of providing the handout could be strategically incorporated into the presentation / workshop to eliminate extraneous materials during the discovery and learning phases.

Skype - 0 views

Skype allows video conferencing between participants and students sharing sample media projects. By initiating motivation for the workshop through synchronous communication with student experts, participants experience generative processing. This procedure will demonstrate the purpose of the workshop and increase motivation for participation. Skype is free, available on my school server, and easy to install and use.

Skype has become very popular because of the easy (and free) access to video and audio conferencing. It can potentially be used for conferencing calling a presentation. Also, students could work together closely from home because of the ability to hear each other while surfing the Internet looking for resources for the project.

Sliderocket's free version can be used to create vivid online presentations for assessments. It promotes generative learning because students can use it to present final products that reflect their understanding. I chose this site because of the flexibility avaiable for its presentations and its reputable nature.
  •
Slide Rocket allows the user to create new PowerPoint style presentation or to import presentations from PowerPoint. These presentations can be shared and the site keeps track of how many users are viewing the presentation and how it is being shared. Because it allows the user to use existing presentations, it also eliminates the need for a single computer to be able to edit the presentation.
  •
Using SlideRocket gives users the advantage of importing simple presentations and creating animated slideshows. SlideRocket offers professional level tools unavailable thorough other presentation websites. By starting with simple concepts and linking them together between slides, workshop participants get a clear pre-training introduction to difficult production content.

Genesys Conference Center offers the capability of having participants in a workshop interact with the lesson or training session. For example; when training individuals on a software application, the speaker will show the functionality of the application and then turn it over to a participant as they are able to test the application via a shared screen.
