    Allows for screen captures of up to 5 minutes in length along with audio narration. This will be used as a podcast/tutorial to help my learners understand how to access and use Google Docs for the authentic assessment. Generative learning is enhanced via dual coding in that viewers are observing a demonstration as they are listening. By making sure they already know how to operate Google Docs I will enable them to focus on performing the assessment activity, rather than on how to do it. This, I think, reduces essential cognitive processing, allowing for more capacity for generative cognitive processing. Other screen capture applications that I viewed, such as Ariscreen, did not allow for audio narration.

    Allows me to use graphics and text within slides, as well as narration. Once I am finished I will be able to convert the final product into a video. This will be used to comically display my understanding of their needs as teachers regarding the need to be efficient, rather than to just be given more teaching strategies. Generative learning, according to Mayer (2009) is affected by motivation. I believe a goal of pre-training should be to positively motivate in an effort to increase motivation of participants. I believe relative advantage and compatibility, two elements of Roger's (2003) perceived attributes of innovations, should be addressed to increase likelihood of adoption of the ideas and strategies presented.

    This mind-mapping website allows for conversion of the mind map to an outline form. This lets me provide the information in two types of graphic organizers. Some participants may prefer one over the other and having the option enhances generative learning potential provided by the graphic organizer. I have viewed and used other mind-mapping programs, such as bubble-us, but Webspiration Pro is the first in which I have seen this capability. I had to sign up for a 30 day free trial period, but once I create something I can save it easily to a Google doc or Word.

    Mind42, unlike Webspiration Pro, is free and I like it for different reasons. Mind42 appears to more easily allow me to utilize images in the mind map I create. I am thinking of using Mind42 to create a navigational flowchart for the participants using screen shots as images within the flowchart. This, I think enables more processing towards generative learning in that they will spend less time wondering if they are navigating the workshop correctly. After creating the workshop I may change how I use these, but this is what I currently have in mind.

    The functionality of Prezi as a universe allows me to navigate a presentation in a way that I can creatively connect and associate information. For example, I can take multiple research that complement one another and present them in a way that relays that association. The visual connection, made possible by the zooming capability of Prezi, creates a graphic representation of how ideas and concepts connect, enabling generative learning. I have found nothing with which it really compare Prezi. The zooming capability within the Prezi universe allows for a presentation in which the visual aspect is involved in the learning process more-so than Microsoft Power Point.

    GoAnimate allows one to use setting and interacting characters to convey information. This creates an interesting, and entertaining, way to teach ideas and concepts. I will have to pay for a one-month subscription, but I will continue to have access to anything I create as long as I save it outside of the GoAnimate website. Generative learning can be enhanced in that the very use of it motivates people to watch. My intention is to convey information in a humorous way and I am hoping that it will not take me long to learn to use it. Being that I have already started 30 day free trial periods in other websites, such as Webspiration Pro, I will not pay for a month of GoAnimate until I can give it most of my attention. I found FluxTimeStudio, which is a similar application, to be more for younger participants. Since my workshop is intended for high school teachers, I believe GoAnimate is more appropriate.

    Authentic Assessment Activity

    ProProfs Quiz Maker has a couple of useful functions for the assessment. First, it allows me to create a quiz that is able to be embedded in Wiki's. Within the quiz I can utilize pictures and sounds. I will use this, in part, not to quiz, but to gain feedback about the workshop. This will serve as a type of program evaluation from which I can find ways to improve it. I will also test their knowledge to some degree to ensure generative learning is taking place. The ability to use imagery in the quiz also reinforces concepts and ideas as well as help recall. ProProfs also has a function in which notecards can be created that include a word, an image and a ling to a video. My authentic assessment involves having the participants select 5 words from their content area and associate them with images and video clips using some of the methods presented to them. I may use ProProfs to completely supplant my initial idea of using Google Docs. However, I would lose the collaborative aspect if I do so. I am contemplating and am not settled as of yet.

    Google Docs allows me to pre-create a graphic organizer for which my participants can collaborate to create the start of a database. The database would consist of vocabulary words related to their content area along with related imagery and links to video clips that convey the meaning of the word. It allows them to manipulate the document and communicate within the document synchronously and asynchronously. I like the idea of a resulting database that they can continue to build beyond the workshop. Eventually, they will be able to create vocabulary lessons solely from the database and in a manner using dual coding theory. It is for this reason that I have not yet decided to use ProProfs solely. I am considering a two-part authentic assessment in which they utilize this Google Doc activity and create the imagery related notecards on ProProfs as a way of showing them how they can let their students view and/or create them.
