Three websites on using Smartboards in the classroom were reviewed and selected. The three websites contain multimedia artifacts and will be identified as learner-centered or technology centered.
Multimedia Artifacts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwla8E6jz4g&feature=related This website offers a tutorial on using the Smartboard. The site is learner-centered because the learner is required to follow directions presented in the tutorial to complete certain tasks. The learner demonstrates active learning because she is using prior knowledge to make new meaning (Mayer, 2009).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWNCHG-xB9o&feature=endscreen&NR=1 This is another tutorial on using the Smartboard. The site is technology-centered. A demonstration is presented showing some of the tips and tricks of the Smartboard. A lot of information is presented in the video and the active learning process would include sorting through the information to make connections to prior knowledge (Mayer, 2009).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qu8KUWx0Vg&feature=related The website shares a teaching strategy using a game on the Smartboard. This is a learner-centered site. A game is used as an assessment tool to test student's knowledge. A student would have to draw from his/her long-term memory or working memory to provide the correct information; Mayer (2009) describes this as the result of making meaningful learning.
