Web Sites and Applications for Creating Multimedia

    1) Creating Presentations
    a) http://www.techsmith.com/jing.html This website allows users to download Jing, a computer application that provides users with the technology to capture screen shots and create videos of screen motions. I chose this technology because is essential to creating instructional videos for presentations. Instead of having a speaker try to orally instruct participants on how to navigate a computer program, the Jing application creates a video with narration. The users can then save and share the video with those that will need to follow specific directions.
    b) www.sliderocket.com Slide Rocket is an online presentation maker than is similar to PowerPoint and Prezi. Slide Rocket is web-based, which means it employs cloud technology, and creators can access their work from any computer with Internet access. I chose this technology because of its user-friendly qualities. First of all, the technology is free and all accounts receive the premium features that it offers. Also, it is PowerPoint compatible, so files created in PowerPoint can be uploaded and edited using the Slide Rocket features. Files created in Slide Rocket can contain imported files, music, audio, and video, and can easily incorporate YouTube and Flikr.

    2) Pre-Training
    a) www.bubbl.us When assessing the prior knowledge of students or participants of a workshop, it is easy to complete a mind map. Bubbl allows its users to create an easy mind map. It could also be used by the instructor to create a blank mind map and ask participants to fill in the missing areas based on what they already know. This mind map and brainstorming technology is free. One must sign up for an account, but all of the features are available.
    b) www.wordle.net Establishing important vocabulary and terms is a key to learning. Participants in a workshop could be exposed to important terms through the use of wordle. This technology creates a word cloud that can include whatever terms that the creator deems necessary. It is a great way to open a workshop as participants try to categorize words and meanings and determine the objectives of the learning session.

    3) Graphic Organizers
    a) www.gliffy.com Gliffy is an online, web-based application that provides users with the technology to create customized graphic organizers. This site is completely free, but it also offers pay-for-service that includes some upgraded features. The technology is easy to use and is easy to print for mass production or easy to embed for online use. This technology fits my needs for my workshop, but it also meets the needs of my participants because they will have to create a graphic organizer as part of their assessment.
    b) www.cacoo.com Cacoo and Gliffy are very similar in many ways. They allow users to create graphic organizers from nothing or through the use of templates. I chose Cacoo for one important reason. This website allows its user to collaborate online while they use the graphic organizers. This is astonishing to think about as multiple users can access and edit the same graphic organizer in real time and simultaneously.

    4) Authentic Assessment Activity
    a) www.wikispaces.com The final assessment activity for my workshop is a wiki page created for project-based learning. Participants will have to develop a project-based learning unit and publish the components on their group Wiki page. Wikis allow participants to publish their work, but it also allows groups and partners to collaborate and work on the same project.
    b) http://poster.4teachers.org Poster4Teachers is a technology application that can be used by workshop participants to display their new learning and understanding. This website provides students and participants a medium to publish their final project or authentic assessment artifacts.
