Presentation applications offer the instructor and learner the opportunity to interact with the coursework. Using presentation tools with audio and visual characteristics enhances the learning environment. In the workshop, instruction though screen casting allows the participants to learn at a moderate pace from descriptive coaching. In addition to screen casting, web-based authoring of artifacts allows the participants to share their projects with others in the workshop.

    Screenr http://www.screenr.com
Screener is a free screen-casting tool. The application is free, and captures movements on a computer as the instructor demonstrates a learning tool. In the classroom, screen casting is helpful in sharing and explaining how students are completing tasks/learning objectives. For the instructor, the tool can be used for distributed students, or students not available for classroom instruction. In the workshop, participants will use pre-recorded screen cast, and they will develop a screen cast during their final assessment.
Selection: Screenr is a java-based tool that operates on any platform. It is simple to use once the java application is loaded, and allows the user to adjust the size of the screen recorded for instruction. The recording is limited to five minutes. For instruction lasting more than five minutes, the video can be stitched together in a video application like iMovie. Other screen casting programs are difficult to use and cost money to purchase (SnagIt, Camtasia, Screenflow, etc.).

    authorSTREAM http://www.authorstream.com
authorSTREAM is an application that allows the user to share presentations (PowerPoint and Keynote) while retaining the transitions and audio in a movie format. In education, the application offers student the opportunity to share information across platforms without errors from translation software. During the workshop, this tool will provide the participants with a link for sharing group presentations in their blogs and wikis.
Selection: A free application for sharing a single presentation (100MB); the pro version has unlimited storage, and allows up to 15 presentation. authorSTREAM allows for embedding the presentations into other applications. This option allows for sharing without distortion. Slideshare is a comparable choice, but has an increased cost with reduced security options for sharing.
