    Websites for Active Learning

    www.timetoast.com
    www.studyisland.com
    www.brainpop.com

Timetoast is an interactive timeline maker where students create a timeline on any topic they choose. Study Island is a website that can be tailored to students learning. Teachers can design lessons and assessments for the students. The lessons incorporate games into the assessments to reward students for correct answers. BrainPop is an interactive website that incorporate vide/cartoons on a variety of topics in all content areas. The videos are followed by quizzes for the assessments, along with other activities. All of these websites promote cognitive activities, which Mayer (2009) contends is vital to promote learning. Although the websites listed promote behavioral activity, they also promote cognitive skills. Because they are focused on what the students do and aid cognitive development, these websites are learner-centered.
