Edmodo is a social networking site for teachers, students, and parents. Teachers are able to implement collaborative learning activities through synchronous and asynchronous discussions of a specific topic. Participants can add multimedia files such as images, videos, and links to Internet resources, and upload files and documents. Teachers can create small groups for students to differentiate instruction around individual student needs. Also, teachers can reward students with badges as an incentive, create quizzes, take polls, and give assignments. Students are able to submit their assignments and upload files. Parents can track their child's progress in class and keep abreast of classroom activities.
Edmodo is easy to use by most students, and has been often admired by its "Facebook" appearance, which is why most students are so eager to use it. Unlike other LMSs, such as BlackBoard and Moodle, this site is more appealing to the K-8 setting because of its child-centered interface. For instance, students are able to save and upload their work into their "Back Pack," and submit assignements to their Teacher's "Gradebook." Also, teachers are able to reward individual students with badges as an incentive for demonstrating progress.
