Database that links films to historical events. Search by country or subject. Useful for finding movies to compare perspectives on some historical events. Eg. By clicking on Japan it shows films about Japan but some are made in Japan, some in US, some in China.

Welcome to the new iSchool series - the iSchool crew. Check out my Podcast Producer's first go at doing their own podcast -Edtechcrew style. Found it very difficult but very rewarding. Basic concept is trying to give kids a voice for their honest feedback on th good and bad aspects of technology, and how it is being used in the classroom. Kids collaborate on a Google Doc to make show notes, and upload links to website. Planning to share Google Doc or create a Diigo/Delicious account so other kids at school can all have an input - much like is done here with Diigo. First episode, so be nice! The demand for timely, relevant content that is specific to our unique interests and perspectives has given rise to a new generation of tools that aim to help individuals and companies curate content from the web and deliver it in a meaningful way. These new tools range from simple, application-specific types such as social media aggregators and discovery engines, to more complex, full-blown publishing solutions for organizations."

Some new ones to explore. I suppose students need to try these tools too. These automate daily search to just the best of what you are interested in.

Determine who owns a website.

Last month, I blogged about the choice I gave my statistics students between using Diigo and Pinterest for the social bookmarking assignments in the course. I floated two possible reasons why most of my students selected Diigo over Pinterest: Hypothesis 1: Students choosing Diigo over Pinterest selected the service that seemed more academic. Hypothesis 2: Pinterest has the reputation for being a site mainly for women. Most of my engineering students are men, so they opted for the less gendered option, Diigo. Hypotheses are all well and good, but I wanted some evidence, so I asked my students on their end-of-semester survey why they selected the platform they did. Of my 71 students, 45 responded to this question.
