Agree ! Blogging is just one of many tools at hand - but probably one of the most powerful means of communicatinig brilliant ideas - or just simply thoughts on an issue..
Five years ago I wrote an article claiming that blogging was a fling and that it would fade out - like so many other hyped phenomenons. Today I have to realize that I was DEAD WRONG !!!

There is one hurdle to pass - though.
In my experience - most teachers in my corner of the world - are more concerned about what to write in their own blog - than reading what others write .
Putting it differently : They write for themselves - and they do not need a blog to do that.

To me it seems as if teachers are in a process of learning here.
(You have to know the letters - before you can read a book ...uh ?)

    I have a dream !!!!!
Since 1996 I have been working with children - and the Internet.
At the beginning - they "helped me" create a website - so that a father living in Brazil could keep track of his daughters life at school in Norway was like.
Doing this - the firstgraders did learn hove to use the web sensibly.
And what's even more important - they managed to see how easy it would be to write lies . In other words : "Not everything you read is necessarily the truth".
To me this proved that even seven year old kids are able to take in messages about net-safety.
In Norway - this is not taught before 10th grade ! (And this is a lost cause....)
My dream would be to teach this to the kids from day one. Not much - but enough to make them realize the importance of this.
Today - Over 70% of Norwegian kids have an FB account,a Myspace..., a Bebo, an MSN,account ....and so on - sadly without knowing the rules that should apply here.. This has become a major part of their social lives.
At what time do US children start to learn net safety in schools?
    Just wondering.
