The organizing committee for the Rio 2016 Olympics and Paralympics signed an agreement serve only sustainably produced seafood. Seafood offerings will be certified by the Marine Stewardship Council or the Aquaculture Stewardship Council.

All seafood served at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro will be certified as sustainably wild caught and responsibly farmed, according to an agreement signed yesterday.

Rio de Janeiro became the first city in the world to fully comply with the Compact of Mayors. City leaders can achieve compliance by registering a commitment, identifying their municipality's current emissions, creating GHG reduction and adaptation targets, and establishing an action plan.

"The effect of long-term warming is to make it harder to count on snowmelt runoff in wet times," said David S. Gutzler, a climate scientist at the University of New Mexico. "And it makes the dry times much harder than they used to be."
