Whenever running a creativity program that involves creating abstract artwork, I am always asked how to interpret modern/abstract art? For most people it is a massive challenge as its very hard to break your cycle of thinking (If I don't see something I understand or recognise, it must be crap!)

With apologies for not publishing anything for a few weeks, we have decided to make the June post a little bigger than usual. BUT I AM NOT CREATIVE! This statement is something that almost every person that every person we work with on a 'creative program' will say.

I am a huge fan of the show Grand Designs. The presenter takes you into the lives of people who are doing a home renovation on a grand scale. Each house is always amazing and unique. Great ideas flow and come to life. In the process of doing up my own house, it's even more interesting.

I find the more that I read about creativity in books, there often seems to be a point missing - about the simple idea of opening your eyes and being open to what is around you. Going for a walk and being a sponge to the world around you.

Its a little bit of a harsh statement but I find that for so many people it seems to be true. This is not a slant against art teachers or any teachers at all. They do an amazing job and I used to be an art teacher myself many years ago.

For someone who has made a living from both practicing creativity (The Arts) and then teaching creativity (Visualfunk) I think one of the most important contributors to creativity (at a personal or corporate level) is time. There are may other contributors at play but time is a huge one.
