The Importance of Doubt, Asking Questions and Not Knowing - 2 views

  • Knowing is much more comfortable (and easier) than not knowing. That is why most people convince themselves to be absolutely certain they know the answers.
  • Not knowing, just like other cases of being uncomfortable, is a great incentive for personal growth. Progress always comes at the point of resistance. Getting uncomfortable and willing to be uncertain, to not know, to ask questions, to err and to fail, is the best and only way to learn, grow, progress and move forward.
  • There is always a better way!

  • So not knowing is always the very first step on the way to knowing.
  • “I know that I don’t know. But you don’t know that you don’t know, and that is why you think you know.” is what Socrates used to say.
  • enjoy what I do but also do what I enjoy, without having to struggle.
  • for as long as I am uncomfortable I know that I will be learning and growing.

Effective Online Facilitation - 6 views

  • managing 'the communication of others online' (Coghlan 2001).
  • Collison et al. (2000, Chapter 5) divides skill sets for online facilitation into 'basic and general netiquette' to establish functional and effective online programs, and second level skills, that is the ability to employ 'advanced dialogue strategies' for deeper level learning and more effective outcomes.
  • Each stage calls for different e-moderating skills requiring participants to master certain technical skills and steps learners through a logical process of induction before deeper level interactions occur. Students learn through participation and engagement. Motivation is the key, and so is the provision of a conducive structure and environment.

I found this very interesting and provides a variety of resources for effective online facilitation.

This site is exactly what I have been looking for! Many of my online students do not have PowerPoint, so I have not been able to effectively assign such projects. 280Slides.com should work perfectly!

Yes, being able to use presentation media this way should be very handy.

While the themes are limited, it gives you many of the same abilities as Microsoft's PowerPoint software application. It allows you to add videos, pictures, custom shapes and text boxes. Also, you can create notes and change the layouts of the presentation itself. It makes importing files simple and gives easy access to the presntation you create anywhere as long as you have a computer and internet connection. Along with all of this, you do not have to download any programs or applications to use, just log into the site and access your saved presentations. Though, PowerPoint definitely has more features, for its easy accessability and presentation creation tools, this is a great web application to use.
