Florian's mother is from the Anderfels. (Duchess Catrin of Hosberg) I can pretty much promise she's not a Dufayel. Therefore, the relation has to be on the Valmont side, which leaves Emperor Etienne II (assassinated because he sucked eggs) or Grand Duchess Leontine. If dude's using the Dufayel heraldry, it's more likely his father's than his mother's, because what the fuck Orlais, why you so patriarchal. (It's just weird to me that the nation that created the entirely matriarchal Chantry passes titles almost exclusively to male heirs, where possible.)

Okay, so, that tells us something that may not have been immediately apparent. All the Loyalist First Enchanters are dead. The only First Enchanters who survived the rebellion at the White Spire were those who left with Fiona, who would be declared rebels for that alone, if they weren't already - and Vivienne, who was never confirmed as First Enchanter of Montsimmard.

There is a song that the Maker thinks everyone should be singing. - Titans have a song that's different from lyrium song or blight-song. - Cole says something about 'when everything sang the same' in reference to the time before the veil.

So. Blood magic can create communicable diseases. Ancient elves did blood magic. The Blight is a communicable disease. Red lyrium (which is Blighted) grows in people, probably specifically their blood, since that seems to be the usual magical element. Technically, lyrium is 'blood' too-Titan blood-but I'm really not sure how to factor that here, since it's clearly not at all the same as regular blood (incidentally if lyrium is supposed to be liquid, which is possible, then Thedas as a continent has the most amazing case of gout).

Assuming this is the case, I put forth that Korth, either a titan or the guardian of one, removed 'his heart' - a titan's heart - and moved mountains, a thing we know titans can do, to cover it, because of the elves' hunt for the hearts of titans, which may also explain why the Lady of the Skies does not get directly involved. (As Cole says in Trespasser: "Their ancient shapers were mountains drawn of all their wills, walking their memories into valleys of the world." And I'm pretty sure Valta says something about it in Descent, but I can't find the quote.) Okay, so, having established Belenas/Korth is a titan - possibly a titan and its guardian - it's time to talk about what the fuck happened to that mountain. And for this, I'm going to call upon the legend of Andruil.

Oh lord. Uh. So 'alchemy' is definitely an idea, and still called as such (rather than Natural History or something to suggest a more recent, 'scientific' approach). The search term alchemy brings up quite a few hits you can check out on the wiki.

We are familiar with the standards demanded when trading with the various merchant guilds. Be it a sovereign (Ferelden), a royal (Orlais), a king's guilder (Nevarra), a double griffon (Anderfels), or any of a dozen others, one gold coin is worth one hundred silver coins or ten thousand copper coins. Let us instead concern ourselves with the art of the minter, how coins stand apart, and the more unusual currencies now falling by the wayside.

I've been writing in my Avvar!Hawke series again recently, and one of the things that came up (in banter with Sebastian, as it happens) was the reminder that before she was the Prophetess, Andraste was an Avvar. The sources are remarkably cagey about this fact, I discovered when I went to dredge up more details on her background. They volunteer up front the knowledge that her husband Maferath was Avvar (this seems to be held as a point of rancor between the Avvar and the Andrasteans, since Maferath betrayed Andraste, therefore the Avvar are evil and not to be trusted.) And her biography also states clearly that she was born to Avvar parents - "her mother was an Alamarri[2] woman named Brona and her father was the chieftain of one of the largest Alamarri tribes in what is now northern Ferelden.[3]" Yet they seem reluctant to come out and say straight out that Andraste herself was an Avvar.

It took me a while to gather everything (you can find all this info at the bottom of my profile tab) and there are still some dates that are rather vague, but everything here is taken from in the game, the game years are used as comparison or are directly pulled from the World of Thedas book. And then where they weren't noted, I made some guesses based on the order of historical events (those are marked). And then there's a couple at the bottom where I have zero fucking idea.

For RPing and writing purposes, we have put together a list of magical and non-magical tech in Dragon Age so that we have a handy reference guide for what is canon (which implies what is theoretically possible) in the world of Thedas. Hopefully our lists will be useful to the fandom in general. We will update the list to reflect new information as we get new information or reread old sources. Our plan is to focus on the lesser known items from the games, books, comics and other media. If you have noticed anything we have missed, please add it via reblog or messages.

my understanding of English is terrible so I apologize but where did you get the idea that the ancient elves were into magical texting? I think something flew over my head --- Happy to clarify. If you were referring to our post about Lyrium and Magical Technology, we got this idea from the Dragon Age movie, Dawn of the Seeker.

The Cradle of Sulevin is the final resting place of the shards of the one renowned Sulevin Blade, the finest weapon ever made. During the Exalted Marches, the Dalish made blood sacrifices of innocent humans captured by their forces here at a place one describes as "a place that was once sacred". The sacrifice goes horribly wrong, and in an attempt to prevent the process from ever happening again, one of the Dalish mages seals away his companions with the shards of the shattered blade. Since that day, the blade has been lost.

Query: Do we ever see ancient elven writing? That is, "letters or characters that serve as visible signs of ideas, words, or symbols". We see runes, which you interact with by having, essentially, visions, complete with feelings. We see 'books', which appear to be similar, and are also described as memories (with a question mark, as if description were confusing or difficult because of an unfamiliar concept). But do we see anything (whether we're able to read it or not) which appears to explicitly be symbolic, non-magical ancient elven text?

i just really love that despite actual familial relationships, teagan just. adopts alistair and connor. alistair only refers to teagan as his uncle, never eamon (except in one letter to eamon that he never sent). there's cut content of teagan helping connor get away from the circle and asking hawke for help. in the mark of the assassin dlc, when someone asks teagan "how is your nephew" he says "which one" and talks about both of them (and how both of them are annoying eamon on purpose)
