"When [the Evanuris] finally went too far, I formed the Veil and banished them forever.... - 0 views

  •
So the Veil effectively "broke" the Fade by sundering it from the physical world, resulting in the downfall of the elven empire and forever changing the world of Thedas as we know it today. But that's not why this line stood out to me. It's the bit about the "old dreams" that's really compelling, because the implication there is that the Evanuris aren't the only beings held at bay by the Veil. So, how does this connect to the Whispers In Red Lyrium codex? Hopefully the above graphics have helped illuminate some of my points, but I'll go ahead and explain myself a bit further. To point out the obvious, the "whispers" here are most definitely blighted. (Seeing how red lyrium is blighted - the jump here isn't a difficult one.) The word "sundered" is also an interesting choice of word, as it is strongly associated with two things: The creation of the Veil and the destruction of the Titans.

    Cole in Trespasser: "He broke the dreams to stop the old dreams from waking. The wolf chews its leg off to escape the trap." Whispers in Red Lyrium: We are here We have waited We have slept We are sundered We are crippled We are polluted We endure We wait We have found the dreams again We will awaken No relationship, I'm sure. :}

Healing Herbs of Thedas - 0 views

  •
Sans magic and game mechanics, what do we know about what they actually do? Here's what I can find. I have left out any herb for which no in-world use or effect is given besides crafting, for brevity's sake. I have also left out herbs which appear to be strictly poisonous. This is all information from the wiki, so if anyone has more information from, say, the RPG guide, I'd love to add it.

A Goddamn Gigantic List of Dwarves - 0 views

  •
Not complete, but substantial and annotated. Most annotations are wiki copypasta. Links are included to the wiki page in which each name is found. Not all names have their own wiki entries, which is kind of the point of this list. The list does not distinguish between Surfacers, dwarves of Orzammar, dwarves of Kal-Sharok, and dwarves of other cities lost to the Blight, but that may be something to consider.

A Goddamn Giant List of Dalish Elves - 2 views

  •
It's not complete, but it's pretty substantial. Missing information is clearly marked in each entry with empty brackets. Where a clan name is missing, the keeper's name is used. This is a longer list than 'Category:Dalish' on the wiki, because it includes elves that don't have their own pages.

A Goddamn Ginormous List of Tevinter Names - 1 views

  •
Annotated. To go with my goddamn ginormous list of Dalish names. The list isn't complete, but it's substantial. Annotations are from the wiki. All names are accompanied by a link to the wiki page on which they're found. Names of Qunari agents of Tevinter origin are not included, because those probably aren't Tevinter names.

Uthenera and Back Again - A Theory on the Origins of the Elven People - 0 views

  •
Thesis Statement: The elven people are the descendants of spirits, made corporeal by crossing from the Fade into the physical world. Introduction This theory popped into my mind as I was playing Inquisition for the first time. I travelled a lot with Solas and Cole. As I did so, I noticed that the way Solas speaks to Cole is very similar to the way I speak to the teenagers in my life. It felt like he was speaking from a place of personal experience, and was trying to guide Cole, and keep him away from dangers or mistakes that he himself had made in the past.

Blight, titans, lyrium: Fungus? - 0 views

  •
What is the largest living thing in the world right now? Leave aside images of elephants and blue whales for a moment, or even dinosaurs and megasharks of the olden days. Leave the animal kingdom behind entirely, leave behind even redwood trees or banyan groves, because the single largest living thing in the world is the honey fungus. Spread out over - and under - miles and miles of territory at a time, the honey fungus may appear to be hundreds of individual organisms, but connected by deep underground networks, they are all one.

According to Weekes, no. He's the one who knows the spell, but other mages could learn it.

The Nature of the Titans - 2 views

  •
Inquisition, especially Descent, but also slipped in in various other places, gave us a bunch of hints and a few big revelations about the Titans, but I'll be honest, I've been dying to know more about the Pillars of the Earth since the first tiny hints. I think it's about time I put my thoughts down coherently. Well, about time I try, anyway.

I've been transcribing cutscenes and dialogue to use as references in my own fanfic and figured that I should make my work available to other authors.

Beyond Thedas - 1 views

  •
Beyond the Korcari Wilds and Arbor Wilds to the south there is a frozen wasteland called the Sunless Lands that only the Chasind Wilders have explored. There is land to the west of Thedas, although the Hunterhorn Mountains inhibit travel, as do the jungles of the Donarks in the northwest. The Tevinter call these lands the 'Viridis' - "The Green", and have rumors of wingless dragons and flying chimeras inhabiting the jungles. Before the Third Blight, the Ander city of Laysh traded with ships that came across the Volca Sea. The travelers, named 'Voshai', had an excessive interest in Lyrium. Expeditions to reach the homeland of the Voshai have so far failed. In recent times, however, rumors have risen that the Voshai ships have returned, bringing with them tales of a 'cataclysm' that devastated their home. [...]

Name day - 1 views

  •
So, because this is a thing that comes up in a codex entry, and it is specifically a DWARF-related codex, I feel like I should point out that 'name days' are a very real thing. They are the day that has the same name you do. (And you're like what, Wednesday? No, like Elizabeth, which is 19 November, in the Swedish Calendar that was in use up to 1972.)

DA Templar Index - 1 views

  •
An index of all the templars I can find mentioned by name, where they're stationed (or where you meet them), the ranks they hold when you encounter them in particular years, whether they are retired, whether they are dead, whether they go Red, and whether their condition is dependent on player action.

Where are the evanuris trapped? - 1 views

  •
We know from Cole that they're trapped behind a mirror. "They sleep, masked in a mirror, hiding, hurting, and to wake them…" Naturally, that means an Eluvian, probably in some sort of pocket dimension, as Siggi put it. But which one? The one that doesn't work.

Solas Fun Facts - 1 views

He once traveled to the Western Approach and nearly died from thirst. He uses magic to prevent sunburn on his bald head. He likes Ghilan'nain's Grove because 'it's quiet'. This area of the Exalted Plains (a place of bloody elven history) was named after Ghilan'nain of the Elven Pantheon, and also houses a shrine to Fen'Harel. Something's up about that place. [...]

Master Reference Post: Dragonblooded Kossith - 0 views

  •
An organized list of where we stand, canonwise, on the hints we have so far of the origins of the Qunari. May include spoilers for Jaws of Hakkon and Trespasser. Please note that there may be additional details hinted at in interviews given by the devs, but I haven't included those here as I don't consider a detail canon until it's actually in the media. Writer and dev conversations, even with the public, are too malleable to be safely considered canon-too much can change during development for such things to be reliable, in my opinion.
