This is a good site to locate research studies not always found in the psychology textbooks. It offers students variety in how they defend their positions.

This seems like it would be a great resource for students to refer to.
  •
I find this resource helpful but I am always a little, oh, I don't know, careful I guess, if I have not read or had access to the original study myself in case there is error. Perhaps I am a bit too conservative, but this is my first year teaching IB Psychology.

ib psych notes - all the IB psychology notes you will ever need. this will save your life, trust me I explored this website this past summer for my AP Psychology class. The snap shots for the experiments is a great resources for students to understand psychological experiments. My students absolutely enjoyed this resource, and I am sure that my IB students will also.

I love the way this students breaks down the course.
  •
This is another potentially useful learning supplement for students. I don't think it is the be all and end all, however it could be a useful resource for students to use in order to brush up problems areas of their knowledge in a concise manner.

Why students using laptops learn less in class even when they really are taking notes -... - 7 views

This really wasn't for the workshop. I just decided I was going to use this in a discussion with my students. I thought I'd share.

I personally still asked my students to have a book to write down their notes by hand. Mostly to avoid the distraction of using laptop. Good to know that there's more good in doing so. Thanks for sharing.
  •
This could actually be a study that students can replicate; I tried to find the original article, but my data base access does not have it; here is the abstract: http://pss.sagepub.com/content/25/6/1159

Hi Marcus, I start the year off with note taking and get students to research the research on using technology over hand written notes. One of my students last year used Cunningham and Stanovich's study for their IA which was titled 'is the pen mightier than the keyboard'? I like this one, something new:0), Best regards, Yvette

Note: The simplified mechanisms of drug action presented here are just a small part of the story. When drugs enter the body they elicit very complex effects in many different regions of the brain. Often they interact with many different types of neurotransmitters and may bind with a variety of receptor types in a variety of different locations.

Funny way to presesnt the consequences of substance abuse.

Great for learning about drugs and neural transmitters.

For drug addiction, states of consciousness unit

This is quite simplified in mechanic however is a good introductory exercise for the effects of various drugs on the brain.

Vaccines could counter addictive opioids - 0 views

  •
Scientists turn to vaccines to curb the growing opioid epidemic. A good overview of drug addiction, the involvement of dopamine and glutamate, and what happens to the brain of an addict (loss of pleasure from normal activities, the need to increase dosage to stave off anxiety and despair, and impairment of dopamine function in prefrontal cortex hence inability to make good decisions).

By age 25, Patrick Schnur had cycled through a series of treatment programs, trying different medications to kick his heroin habit. But the drugs posed problems too: Vivitrol injections were painful and created intense heroin cravings as the drug wore off. Suboxone left him drowsy, depressed and unable to study or go running like he wanted to.

A New way to diagnose autism - 2 views

  •
I want the students to be able to critique and potentially harangue any materials presented by a "noted" authority. Where do they get their data from, how valid were the experimental procedures, etc. Likewise, I want them to explore the potential implications of the data found. How can it be used, and are there any ethical ramifications? Pieces like this are great for fostering such discussions.
