Bathing your dog becomes a tedious task most of the times, if you do not have the required resources. To tackle this many of us take our dogs to the grooming centers or pet care centers. But why to worry when you can bathe your dog at home. Your pet feels very comfortable in the environment which it is aware of, like the house.  Taking the pet to different grooming centers makes the dog uncomfortable and at times starts to panic , so why not bathe your dog at home. Here are the ways in which you may bathe your dog at home

    1. PRE BATH ARRANGEMENTS

It is important that you make proper arrangements before giving bath to your dog. If not planned adequately, you may end up running for things at the last moment. And this would not make the event enjoyable for your dog. Pre bath arrangements should include

    • Collar and leash if the dog is big and can run off

    • Ample amount of water/ continuous water supply

    • Dog shampoo

    • Towels

    • Gloves

    • Soft Brush for brushing the dog after drying.

    2. BATHING A SMALL DOG

If the dog is small you can use a tub and can bathe it indoors. The dog may be put inside the tub and water can be slowly poured on it. Then you may apply the shampoo. You should take great care while selecting a shampoo. (It is better to take the suggestion of a doctor. ). Keep the water away from the ears of the dog. After washing off the shampoo the dog can be taken out of the tub and dried using the towels. Later you may use the brush on the coat of your dog. Best time to bathe your dog is the hottest part of the day which is obviously the afternoon .

    3. BATHING A BIG DOG

At times people are quite confident that their dogs are loyal and disciplined. They also believe that their dogs will stand still when they give their dog a bath. Hope so you are not one of them. Better use a leash and tie your dog to a solid support at the place where you plan to bathe your dog.( Big dogs are difficult to control if they do not have their leash on.) You can bathe your dog indoors in a bathroom if it’s big enough to accommodate you and your dog with a bit of moving space . It becomes convenient if you have a big bath tub. The big dog can be placed in the bathing tub and can be given a bath quite similar to a smaller dog. It’s also good to give your dog bath outside your house. You may use a hose pipe as source of water or may make other arrangement for water.  Apply shampoo on the upper as well as the lower parts of the pet. Do not not miss out on the under belly regions. After applying the shampoo, make sure that you rinse well so that no shampoo is left on the body of the dog. You can spread the towels on the ground and leave the rest for the dog to figure out how to dry itself. You will observe a very playful moment when you see how your dog dries itself on those towels. Later you can brush your dog. This will make it really happy.

ADVICE: Do not use shampoo meant for human use. Dog skin and human skin have different pH balance. Consult a doctor for the type of shampoo suitable for your pet.
