Neutralizing Acidosis And Bone Loss Among Mature Adults - 0 views

  •
A new study funded in part by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) suggests that neutralizing an acid-producing diet may be an important key to reducing bone breakdown, or "turnover," while aging. The study comes on the heels of several ARS-reported studies suggesting that consuming more-than-recommended amounts of calcium may not be the main answer to protecting bone.

A diet deficient in omega 3 fats is known to cause impaired vision both in animals and people. That is because omega 3 fats are essential for the functioning of the nerve tissues in the brain and since the retina is an extension of the brain, it goes without saying that a deficiency of omega 3 fatty acids will have an effect in the way we see things.

Uterine polyps: Are they an obstacle in pregnancy? - 0 views

  •
A uterine polyp is a small, benign formation that develops in the uterine cavity. There are a few uterine polyps' symptoms. These can sometimes lead to bleeding between periods, but it is not abundant. There is usually no pain. Treatment with an oral contraceptive can make it possible to reduce its size, otherwise, the treatment is surgical by hysteroscopy: a small camera is introduced into the uterine cavity to visualize the polyp and perform its excision.

An A to Z guide on uterine fibroids - 0 views

  •
Not all fibroids give symptoms. Many are silent and asymptomatic. There is no link between the symptoms of uterine fibroids and the number of fibroids: a single fibroid can be annoying whereas several can give no sign. Fibroids can be discovered "by chance" during an examination carried out for another reason (vaginal examination, ultrasound, etc.).

You have to scan your brain before your operation to help the surgeon know where exactly the tumour is. Scanning is also sometimes carried out during surgery. Some surgeons use an image guided system where the scans are loaded into a computer to give the precise position of your tumour. After removing the brain tumour, the surgeon puts the area of bone (called a flap) back. They secure the flap with permanent tiny metal brackets. Then stitch the scalp in place over it. In most cases, your hair will hide the operation scars.

High Doses of Vitamin D Cut MS Relapses - 2 views

  •
"April 28, 2009 (Seattle) -- High doses of vitamin D dramatically cut the relapse rate in people with multiple sclerosis, a study shows. Sixteen percent of 25 people with multiple sclerosis (MS) given an average of 14,000 international units (IU) of vitamin D a day for a year suffered relapses, says Jodie Burton, MD, a neurologist at the University of Toronto. In contrast, close to 40% of 24 MS patients who took an average of 1,000 IU a day -- the amount recommended by many MS specialists -- relapsed, she says. Also, people taking high-dose vitamin D suffered 41% fewer relapses than the year before the study began, compared with 17% of those taking typical doses. People taking high doses of vitamin D did not suffer any significant side effects, Burton tells WebMD."

Thanks! I think, almost every vitamin taken in high doses can lead to health issues. Personally I prefer double checking the information about the medications (including vitamins and supplements).
