Contemplating questions of work life balance - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
Oddly lately I have been pondering how schools responds to the question of a work life balance. Let me try to explain my thinking. I am still trying to clarify my thinking here, so please bear with me. What does it mean to achieve work life balance, and should we want to?

Rethinking Time to see Education as a Lifelong Journey - Lessons from Blueback - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
Blueback is a beautiful metaphor for life and particularly of the life we live in schools. When looked at close up, with an eye on the details, the experience of school is one of passing and recurring cycles. When looked at from a distance, with an eye on the whole, there are elements of constancy, the throughlines which bring meaning to our experience and which have as their consequence the residuals of education.

Towards a pedagogy for life-worthy learning - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
In the contemporary classroom, there is much greater consideration of what the learner does in partnership with their teacher so that they develop the capacity to learn. Classroom routines and structures are designed to engage the learner in a rich process of dialogical learning.

The challenge and promise of learning organisations - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
There is a great deal that I like about this description of humanity at its best from Ryan & Deci. It is both a goal to be achieved and an indicator of conditions which are required for us to fulfil our potential. While the focus of this statement is on the actions of the individual we can see how society might act to deny individuals the opportunities to lead such an inspired and agentic life. I like to imagine what a school might be like if every individual who plays a part in its functioning strove to extend themselves, master new skills and apply their talents responsibly.  Maybe schools would be like the 'learning organisations' described by Peter Senge.

Engaged, Disengaged and Overengaged - The consequences of engagement on learning - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
If you consider the day to day life of many of our students today, you see that they have very little time that is free from some form of programmed activity. Indeed, it is increasingly the norm for families to fill their children's time with the maximum number of learning, sporting and co-curricular activities. Schools naturally are happy to facilitate this and many see the breadth of programmes that they offer as a measure of success. But is there a consequence to all this activity and constant state of engagement?

Why engagement matters for learning - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
This is not a story about the evolution of the world-wide-web. It is not about an evolutionary process of learning or a desire to engage in life-long learning. It is instead about the importance of purpose and engagement as factors in our learning.

  •
We all have such situations when we are bored to death. Boredom is one of the most difficult tests in our life. Psychologists suggest that most people are bored when the novelty of sensations goes away, and the motivation for doing ordinary things is lost.

Teacher Agency vs The Collective Voice - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
With good reason, much is made of learner agency but the concept of teacher agency is important too. If we hope to build a profession in which we are all self-navigating life-long learners, we must acknowledge the role that teacher agency plays.

How Can A Primary School Tutor Assist Your Child? - About Town Tuition | online tuition for primary school - 0 views

  •
Primary School is the foundation of a child's educational life. How is he/she going to perform and what kind of attitude he/she exposes towards receiving education depends completely upon the care and assistance one receives in their primary school level. So, it is the responsibility of every conscious parent to provide their kid with the best care and support during the most formative period of their life. To support them successfully and completely, enrolling them in a primary school is not the only thing you have to do. They need extensive care and only an efficient primary school tutor can create the environment which will enable them to learn, making it an extremely enjoyable act.

Becoming Learners: Making time for OUR Learning - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
At the heart of all that we do as teachers lies the act of learning. Our hope is that our actions inspire our students to engage in a process that results in their acquisition of new knowledge, mastery of new skills and the development of capacities and dispositions which will prepare them for life beyond our classrooms. Increasingly our focus is on developing the skills and dispositions our students require to become life-long learners. We recognise that in a rapidly changing world, the capacity to take charge of your personal learning journey, to become self-navigating learners is essential.

Rise in Quality of Life to Boost Demand for organic personal Care Market - 0 views

  •
Organic personal care products are developed by using natural ingredients, sourced from plants. These products do not contain synthetic materials or harmful chemical additives such as phthalates, petrochemicals, aluminum salts, and parabens. The global market has witnessed a gradual shift in the preferences of consumers from conventional products to organic personal care products. The changing predilection, growing health and beauty concerns, and stringent regulations imposed by the government and regulatory authorities on the use of chemical additives are instrumental in setting the organic personal care products industry trends in the global market.

Educational Disadvantage - Socio-economic Status and Education Pt 3 - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
Pedagogy and curriculum that engages students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds and is deemed personally relevant to the lives they live, are seen as important factors towards equality of outcome by Wrench, Hammond, McCallum and Price (2012). Their research involved designing a curriculum and pedagogy that would be highly engaging to students of low-socioeconomic status. 'The interventions involved curriculum redesigns that set meaningful, challenging learning task(s) (culminating in high quality learning products); strong connection to student life-worlds; and a performative expectation for student learning.' Sharing our Puzzles of Practice - The Learner's Way - 0 views

  •
Einstein is often quoted as having said "If I have an hour to solve a problem and my life depended on the solution, I would spend the first 55 minutes determining the proper question to ask, for once I know the proper question, I could solve the problem in less than five minutes." Clearly Einstein understood how to attack puzzling problems. As teachers we face a host of puzzles on a daily basis. Every student we teach, thanks to their idiosyncrasies presents a unique puzzle. The interactions between students further complicates things. Our goals for our learners, their learning needs, the demands of the curriculum, pressures from beyond the classroom all result in puzzles for us to manage and to solve.
