Museums from around the world. Nice place to view art work from multiple locations quickly.
  •
The Art Project powered by Google features interior tours of seventeen world famous art museums. Select a museum from the list on the homepage & you can virtually tour it using the same interface style you experience in Google Maps Streetview. Inside the museum, just double click to zoom to a location. You can also open a floor plan overview & click on a room to navigate to that part of the museum. The best part of the Art Project powered by Google is the option to create your own artwork collection while visiting each museum. As you're touring a museum click on the "+" symbol on any work of art see it in greater detail, to add it to your collection, & to open background information about that work of art. To create a collection you must be signed into a Google account. This is a great way to start a story or writing prompt, or to explore history & cultures.

Summer PD: Join The Web Tools Collective | Edutopia - 141 views

  •
"As part of Edutopia's summer professional development experiences, we are starting a Web Tools Collective to explore and learn with other teachers from around the world. We plan to "study" a variety of web tools and resources, and identify ways that they can be used in the classroom. The Web Tools Collective is a flexible, open-learning experience. We will provide a learning space (Edutopia blogs and groups) and a loose structure for exploration. You are welcome to jump in and out as your schedule and interest allows. You can post daily, weekly, just once or twice, or you can even just lurk. "

Action Research Projects for Teachers - 5 views

  •
Action research is a great solution teachers' questions  I highly recommend learning about it. .. By collecting data and analyzing the results, teachers can change their practices in the classroom as needed. The principle of action research is to plan a change, implement the change, collect any necessary information, and analyze what happened. Action research can make use of data already being collected or needed for classroom practice."

Teaching Tip: Vocabulary Lesson Your Students will Devour - International Reading Association - 31 views

  • A Juicy Word is a word that has some real substance to it. Juicy Words are special, more so than your everyday, dried-out variety of words.
  • First, I ask students to collect ten Juicy Words per week
  • from text or from speech
  • ...4 more annotations...
  • note about where they found the word and how it was used
  • uring Week 2, I ask students to continue collecting ten Juicy Words per week, and in addition, to identify their three favorite Juicy Words and to use them at some point
  • In their Week 2 posts, students share their three Juicy Words, information about where they sourced each word, a brief explanation of each word's meaning, and how they used each word in real life.
  • By Week 5, the students are using five of their Juicy Words per week, and collecting an average of 15—five more than the ten words that I require
  •
Teaching tip for vocabulary - have students collect 10 "juicy words" each week including where they found them and how each was used.  Then they choose their favorite 3 and are asked to use those 3 throughout the week.

  • This course will be an introduction to crowdsourced art, and an experiment in collective creativity. We’ll learn about crowdsourced art – the central topic of my PhD research – and we’ll work together to develop a children’s book about a snail called Hashtag and his adventures on the Internet.

Understanding Content Curation - 70 views

  • My conclusion is that to do justice to using the term “curating” for educational resources, inquiry must be a part of the process. Part of this process is deciding what goes “in” to the collection – meaning many, many items are evaluated and set aside.
  • Themes have a common unifying element – but don’t necessarily explain the “why.” Theme supports a central idea – Context allows the learner to determine why that idea (or in this case, resource) is important. So, as collecting progresses into curating, context becomes essential to determine what to keep, and what to discard.
  • curating, it seems that collecting serves primarily the needs or interests of the collector. With curating, a larger goal is to benefit not only the collector, but other potential learners as well. It is meant to be shared. And, both the process and the product of curating help the curator as well as those who view the curated collection to understand and to learn.

  • learning that it generates. It gets back to my belief that learning is a social endeavor.  Participatory learning leads to increased understanding.  This led me to my next big understanding
  • understanding as a result of this inquiry.

good 'compare and contrast' between what is just collection of digital content resources and what the 'added value' of curation of digital resources means
