Awesome activity! Interesting to teach in so many contexts: poetry, economy of words, even censorship - a different take on it. Also meshes perfectly with the novel catch 22 and Yosarrian censoring the letters.
Ray Bradbury, one of the masters of the science fiction or science fantasy genre, also wrote speculative poetry. In 2008 he was named the Science Fiction Poetry Association’s latest Grand Master
In 1995 Tom Brink laid out the rules for scifaiku in The Scifaiku Manifesto, but science fiction haiku had been around at least since the publication of Karen Anderson’s “Six Haiku” in 1962.
Thank you for sharing this article. We held a "coffee house" poetry presentation last year at our middle school and it was wonderful. We plan to do it again and I am always looking for ideas. We held ours during the school day and had tables with table clothes and battery operated candles. We incorporated some beatnik themes - some of us wore berets and we had the students snap instead of clap. It was great fun.

Showcasing twelve terrific poetry projects from our incredibly creative community of educators. You'll find projects for first graders and high schoolers, and everything from sensory poems to color explorations to poems about polliwogs. (We also think any of these would be just as fun for adults to try - a little creative expression is always good for the soul!)"
A great poetry site for children. See poems on a range of topics and most poems have an audio of the poet reading their poems.

The Poetry Archive, as the name suggests, is a bank of poetry and information about poets. A great resource for teachers and students alike.

Magnetic Poetry online - after the site loads, wait for the "Next" button to appear in the bottom right corner. You can enter the words you want to use for the poetry and choose different backgrounds/grids, including Venn diagram.
A visual exploration of how the place of physical education at the university has changed over the past two hundred years. What does taking the bird's eye view allow us to see? Is anything to be gained by treating a football stadium as the subject of poetry? Let me know what you think. (Tip of the hat to Wallace Stevens for the form.)
