Delta Region, Netherlands - Along the southern coast of the Netherlands, sediment-laden rivers have created a massive delta of islands and waterways in the gaps between coastal dunes. After unusually severe spring tides devastated this region in 1953, the Dutch built an elaborate system of dikes, canals, dams, bridges, and locks to hold back the North sea. Akpatok Island - Akpatok Island lies in Ungava Bay in northern Quebec, Canada. Accessible only by air, Akpatok Island rises out of the water as sheer cliffs that soar 500 to 800 feet (150 to 243 m) above the sea surface. Ring Light With Stand - 0 views

Ring Light With Stand so lovely. This review is going to be a bit lengthy lol. First of all be prepared to receive absolutely NO instructions with this ring light whatsoever. You literally have to sit there and just play with it to figure out how to expand the tripod, how to snap the filters onto the ring light itself, how to mount the ring light onto the tripod once you've gotten the filters on, how to make sure everything is tightened down once fully assembled and finally, how to use the hot shoe camera and camera phone mounts that come with this set. (I haven't even begun to figure out how to use the Bluetooth remote that came with this set, and while I'm THRILLED this is included, it would be nice to have instructions on how to use it lol). This set includes TWO, I repeat TWO power cords, and one is for use in another country! This is great, but without instructions you'll be sitting there confused for a bit trying to figure out what to do with the darn thing. Very annoying! As far as the ring light itself, it's good. I'm a wig maker so I purchased the ring light to take better pictures of my mannequins wearing my wigs. I've attached 4 pics with this review, 2 pics taken with natural sunlight, and 2 taken with this ring light so you can decide for yourself which looks best. For me there wasn't a ton of difference. Natural sunlight looks just as beautiful as the ring light to be honest. The ring light did create more definition in the HAIR itself, but because of the ring light's brightness I lost definition in the mannequin. This kind of evened things out for me in terms of deciding which lighting, natural or ring light, is best for MY particular needs. I did go ahead and give this ring light 5 stars. Why? Certainly not because of the great instruction manual that came with it (scathing sarcasm). Because of the PRICE. Name brand ring lights of this size are literally hundreds of dollars, and I got this one for just a little ove

Compound Microscope - 0 views

I am pleasantly surprised for the wholesomeness and great quality of this Compound Microscope. Images are sharp and clean. I am happy I got it. It is fun and unpretentious, unlike my lab microscopes. I paired it wit a Gosky iPhone adapter, the one with the protruding tube to be inserted in the tube of the eyepiece or in the trinocular head. Helpful hint: First than anything else… Center the iPhone and Gosky adapter already pre-coupled with the light field of the image while it sits on the eyepiece position, for most control and perfect coupling. A little fiddling will show a sharp capture a circular image, uniformly lighted, without vignettes. THEN, you may photograph from the eyepiece (as if you still owned a binocular microscope) or, BETTER, now troubleless and already centered, on the trinocular tube. Best of both worlds: your eyes and your camera will be both satisfied, registering images at the same time, without the need to sacrifice observation to please your camera. Your diagnosis should be as good as if you were using a $5K microscope in a hospital or a university. Pictures included, taken on my inaugural session, are: Nail with fungi under the nail plate (medium power) and old plantar wart (high power).

Seth's Blog: Saying thanks in a conference presentation - 0 views

  • The solution is pretty simple, thanks to Powerpoint and digital cameras. Prepare for the talk by taking pictures of each person. If they're shy, you can even do photographs in groups of two or three. Good photos, clever photos, funny photos... photos that are interesting are best. Then, create a new presentation. Put each photo on its own slide, preferably with a well designed ID below it (it should be on a black box, with a nice sans serif font reversed out. Like you see on cable TV news.)

Moolf - Hyper Realistic Pencil Drawings - 0 views

  • Inspired by the hyper realistic paintings of the 15th-Century Flemish masters, Laurie Lipton has developed a unique, decidedly painterly graphic technique using a permanent-point pencil. At first glance her drawings look like photographs, upon further inspection many thousands of distinct, precise, cross-hatched pencil-strokes, build up the rich and monochromatic tones. While working exclusively in black and white (“because those are the colours of memories and phantoms” she says) her unsettling and macabre images resonate a slanted psychological realm where rooms are ghost traps filled with yearning souls, secret fears and disturbing memories.
