The expectations to achieve economic and political liberation on the basis of ethnic groups have led to feuds between the people groups within the region. Although a common enemy is still strongly felt to be "the outsiders," in the attempts to define one's ethnonationality, and in the struggle for "autonomy" and liberation, the more powerful neighbouring ethnic groups came to be identified as obstacles. The Naga-Kuki clash in recent years is a good example. If the trend continues as it is, we may expect to see more feuds among the ethnic groups.
